This minding feels quite logical so far eh? :) So a part of the problem could be in the way how the temple gives their information. And an other part can be in how people absorb that information. With that in mind, how do we know where people find the trouble part? If we cannot, both sides must be inspected!! ;)

In order to be taken seriously, we should have a ''plan of attack''. In order to be serious we should have a purpose. Explaining the temple should be simple, powerful, and instinctively. People must be able to see the temple from their own perspective, and not only from ours. Give it time, the temple might not be ready for static acceptance!

The following information-questions about information came in my head:

  • Are new guests well informed from the beginning? How are they informed, do they ask questions?
  • Is the temple explained in one piece somewhere? Must people dig up multiple pages/ to understand the website?

You'd be surprised how many actually do take the order seriously, especially around here.

The TOTJO welcoming crew is the first line of "attack" when new people show up....

Perhaps it needs to be more organized...

Our intake team may need to grow...

Not sure if it is the size of the 'intake team' that makes the difference.. not sure if more organization would help either.. Would it be weird to say that I see different people asking the same questions over and over, even though I think things are very well explained at the website? Sometimes it just think that it is a system failure.. Knowing that I could not write it more simple myself..

I believe it is very good and helpful to all of us that people ask questions, but I find it difficult to understand how people are able to get to the point of not seeing some parts of the website layout.. If people find 'problems' with the display, how can we even start talking on larger scale about people accepting it? I guess that I am thinking too much..

the home page gives a great summary, as well as links to the Doctrine, the IP, a general FAQ, and instructions for registration

the at the bottom of the page is the "Jedi Believe" article

once you register there are tabs at the top linking again to the Doctrine and FAQ, and also the previous Sermons

i dont know if they still do it but iirc both Edan and Adder messaged me when i joined

and everyone who posts an INTRO is greeted kindly, and encouraged to reach out to anyone and to feel free to bring up any questions they may have

most never have another conversation outside of that thread anyway, but its still good to greet them

and of course there are the clergy and the other knights as well

the TOTJO elves have done a great job of providing all the info a person needs in order to get an idea of what the place is about

i dont know what else you could do
blinking lights and arrows maybe?
:-)

People are complicated.

You know, for every person who asks, there is a bunch who don't... :)

There's no harm in asking a question, we encourage it.. ;)

Your not the only "over thinker" Aqua.. ;)

From what has been explained to me, this piece I wrote in the past, while a bit more thorough, some feel puts a bit too much information up front to a newcomer? (Idk, maybe?) But I have used it before to clear up a great deal of confusion for some people who want answers where they feel its very difficult to find them about what our temple is all about:

Most people ideally agree with Jediism, and who am I to say that not putting a "name brand" on it is wrong. A rose by any other name.
If you preach the ideals of this through Buddhism, Buddhists will be receptive.

Maybe if the intake team was the whole temple (to a certain extent) and opened a wider dialogue with guests. I remember being messaged when I signed up and posted an introduction, and hearing about this from both a friend in person and a knight here were huge in building impetus to continue on this path

We still PM every new joiner (1,949 so far in 2016 and counting B) ) and do answer many basic questions via PM that then never get raised in the public forums. Interestingly very few questions are about Jediism per se - they are mostly practical questions (how do I post? how do I introduce myself? How do I apply for membership? when can I start the IP? and so on) that are easily answered through the FAQ.

For the few who ask about Jediism itself - I think Proteus' summary is ideal :)

It's a common enough thing that people arrive, and say we need a building to be a legitimate religion. Interestingly those who have been around longer tend to be less bothered about such things. Why is that?

Perhaps because after spending time in this community, one comes to realise we have the only Temple we need. We have a space for us to talk, to train, to be at peace. To meet others on the same path, to practice living the values our belief is founded on.

For me, the place of Jedi is in the world. Out amongst it, meeting people, experiencing things. My true Temple is the universe... the Force is not confined by any four walls. And anyway... show me any other Temple from any other religion. Are the people within it more "sacred", more "spiritual" than those outside it? Often a building becomes a prison. People are "holy" within its walls, one day a week. Hypocrisy is rife in such places.

How lucky we are that our Temple is with us, wherever we are. Both the shared space of this website, and the internal halls of our imagination and our practice. If a building, somewhere was such a great idea, it would have been built by now. But there is a distinction between Jedi and those on other paths. For us, the true place where our sermons are granted and ceremonies conducted is the wide vista of our world.

So... no physical Temple for me. I find more Jedi "religious presence" in any forest than in any building.

:)
