Mod Abuse

Yes...

After some conversation, this alone was not the reason...

Many factors were at play....

Including my misunderstanding... Perhaps part of my worries on something else was carried over to this...

The point of this thread, was the abuse of popower by a mod...

And, there wasn't any...

But, accusations like this can and have lead others to deciding to leave, and they may never have ever made a post...

Accusations against council as a whole, admins, the jedi community, all sorts of stuff...

And, as new people read and watch, why wouldn't they believe someone like OB1?

He has been here a while, and posts pretty often...

Just as how we now seem to deal with trolls, pretty much ignore them till I can get them blocked, we need to deal with knee-jerk reactions...

Which I was a part of too, siding that the mod was doing his job, it wasn't personal...

It doesn't matter...

Things were handled poorly, and discussions are underway to see how to remedy that...

Who is an adult? Who has an objective opinion? Who experienced terrible treatment elsewhere and is willing to believe it will happen again here? Who sees a bump in the road? Who sees a mountain?

Then lets drop this!. I can only politely ask, close this thread and let it fade away! I don't like this stuff. It makes this place look bad and i know everyone is BETTER! than this. IMHO Rant over.

Got five pages deep and saw a bit of repitition, if I've missed something please make me aware.

Edit up here, went back a few pages. Still missed stuff in the middle. - I think it's sad that people would not feel welcome in a place intended to be a place for thought and spirituality, but these political or simply aggressive ideas as posts are simply time bombs for such reactions. It's easy to critisize being offended, it's easy to say you did not intend to be offensive, but the end result is still an unhappy member. My position on this concept is that we should be talking more about things of the mind and less of things of the world. It's hard to be offended by philosophy, in my experience...

OB1, let it go. If you believe Des wronged you, be the bigger man and drop it. If you believe he belittled you, be the bigger man and get over it. Understand that each person is a product of their reality, which is not the same as yours. Understand that your words are not gold, and while valuable to some, are quite the opposite to others. This is simply a case of the latter. People did not appreciate what you did, and you got shut down. Move on. The "BUT DADDY, SISTER GOT TO DO IT" mentality here is making you look foolish, and I emplore you to save face in the future.

I feel that the mods are very reasonable. I've seen instances where people devolve into bickering and, in my opinion, it is allowed to run for too long. I've also had to bow out of conversations because others attacked my opinion. I didn't get offended, I didn't report them, I understood that their opinion is a result of their reality and LET IT BE SO. In the end, if you aren't here to observe other's opinions, thoughts, actions and reactions, then I feel you are observing only a part of the whole. If you feel you are observing completely, yet are offended, I assure you that you are not.

Des, I didn't see the movie, but Ender's Game floored me when I read the twist back in high school. Do you recommend the sequels? I've not actually read them.

Ah well its a good learning point for the site , things go to the surface to be adressed

this will be my last post here

i made a comment with the words "ni**er" and "f*g"

the person above me made a post with the words "nigger" and "fag"

mine was deleted and i was given an order to watch my language

coincidentally, a thread that i opened was closed by the same moderator a few minutes before

i tried to talk to that mod and was ignored

he justified it by saying some nonsense about me "ordering him around" or me being a jerk, when it was obviously the other way around

what i have explained, clearly enough for you all to understand if you got off your horses and stopped looking down your noses, is that this is a lousy way for a mod to act

and that is true

that being said, its been resolved to my satisfaction, as i said it was going to be in my initial post

it has been for some time

i continued the discussion because in the hopes that the temple was mature enough to review it impartially therefore benefit from it collectively

what i have picked up on about you in my time here has led me to respect and even admire you as a person, and as a Jedi

that didnt change with this event

that being said, you mishandled the situation - i dont know if you read the messages that i sent you, but the way you characterized them was absolutely out of touch with reality

its commonly accepted in respectful internet communities that moderators have as much of an obligation to explain themselves as members do to restrain themselves, and even in the event of a member misbehaving, it is standard protocol for the mod to communicate with that member

my attempts at communication were ignored, and all efforts to blame ME for that are misguided

and probably counterproductive to the overall long term well being of the community

unless someone has something to add that turns out to actually be relevant (which is not likely) i am done with this discussion

Plenty of mistakes were made, and by you as well OB1...

Going public, acting as you had, instead of PMing council, well, it sorta speaks for itself....

I think all of us need to quit picking. OB1 has said he is done with the discussion. So if I may suggest we all do the same and allow some healing to take place.
