This topic honestly disgusts me. People so readily adjust their morals. This is exactly the type of behavior I try to eradicate. The ignorance people can have surprises me. Not the ignorance itself, but rather the unwillingness of the person to acknowledge it. We are all prejudiced, sexist, racist and discriminatory. Every last one of us, and we need to come to terms with it. It is an instinct passed down through generations, we also however have the ability to learn. We can evaluate and reason to take each and every situation as its own moment. If people would simply focus on themselves and how the world affects them individually the world would be a much better place. Only when you improve yourself can you improve the world around you. You can't ask others to do what you haven't. You must be willing to sacrifice your own flaws to knowledge and wisdom and be willing to grow from your mistakes instead of condemning others for theirs. Every must have heard from an elder at some point or another, "put yourself in their shoes". There could be no better advice on this topic. If you can imagine what you would feel like in the situation of the person on the other end of your personal crusade you can gain an understanding and an appreciation for that person. And if you cannot imagine being in the other person's shoes, then you have no right to do what you are doing or to pass judgement on the other person. Calm your emotions and see things clearly, there is no clean end in the fight for "equal rights" for equality is a fools goal. Humanity could learn to take what you need and give what you can. Not the current policy of take what you can and only give what you need to. Only in being your most selfish can you be completely selfless. All is one, and one is all.

I sometimes wonder why others cannot see the world as I do. Perhaps I am completely wrong; in which case I hope to discover the truth someday, but if I am right... if that's true then why does nothing get done? I can't seem to understand why the world continues to operate in the way it does. How can imbalance continue to win out time after time? Why does no one seem to balance the equation and right the path of self annihilation that cycles around only to repeat itself time after time to no gain? I hope to learn the truth one day, maybe then I can share it, until then perhaps I'll just be an ignorant man wandering through the world.

May the Force be with you,
Rai

Other then "acting like a lady" aren't these traits you'd like to see in any personal relationship you might have? Men and women alike should have these traits, not only women. I like t see people who act like themselves, and are compassionate towards those they care about as well as respectful to those that deserve it. Agreed, some women make the cause of feminism an anti-man campaign but that is because true equality for all people is an impossible goal to achieve, you will never get all people to agree on what is fair. If you care for the people you love, regardless of gender or race, then they turn around and do the same and the cycle continues then what more could you ask for? I swear sometimes people miss the simple meanings of things when they try to damn hard to fight against someone else. The truth could be right in front of your eyes, you just need to be willing to give something in exchange for it.

Good point, however I'm not attracted to men

As to the resume bit...that's going to happen no matter what, unfortunately the world is full of people with different cultural and generational biases...making laws and/or forcing others to accept viewpoints that aren't their own achieves nothing but resentment...both genders are guilty of being biased, however the laws being passed tend to only apply favorably towards women while handicapping men...it's like affirmative action...forcing employers to hire minorities to meet a "quota" rather than hiring the PERSON BEST SUITED FOR THE JOB REGARDLESS OF ETHNICITY OR GENDER....if Ihad a fabrication shop, and had an opening for a welder I should be able to hire the best welder to apply, not be forced to hire someone to fill a quota based on gender/ethnicity...if a man and woman both apply for the same job I'm hiring the one that does the job best regardless of whether or not they have something dangling...

I totally agree Ryu. Fighting a wrong with another wrong only accentuates the "wrongness", and as a result decreasing people's happiness and satisfaction in life.

Convictions are more dangerous foes of truth than lies.

Rai, while that would be ideal, it just isn't really feasible. I do not have access to equal rights as a transperson. And while it would be great if everything would be better if I just focused on myself, time and experience has shown me that I can't expect others to do the same and if I ever want equal rights I need to fight for those rights. I'm talking about things like access to SRS through healthcare (not an issue for me personally because I am fortunate enough to have wealthy parents, but many transpeople cannot afford a medical transition). I'm talking about job discrimination, bathroom harassment, murder, bullying toward trans kids that goes unpunished because they should just stop being trans and be normal, trans people dying because they are refused emergency care, etc. Those are things people need to fight for. Women have many things to fight for. People of color have many things to fight for. People with disabilites have many things to fight for, etc. None of that will change if I just focus on myself.

RyuJin, it's the fact that it is consistently women being turned away that is the problem. I don't think people should be forced to hire women to meet a quota by any means. I see that affirmative action is needed in some cases (racial integration in schools and such), but I think that women have come to a point where affirmative action is no longer needed. That doesn't mean we shouldn't work to make people aware of inequalities and work to change the cultural norms regarding women.

People keep saying that laws are favoring women, but I just don't see that as true. The ones that do favor women are only doing so because of views of women as weak. They are a result of patriarchy. If feminists had their way, patriarchy would be abolished and those laws would not exist. Are there any laws that favor women that wouldn't be taken care of by realizing the goals of feminism?

You don't just focus on yourself and ignore everyone else, that isn't the point. You focus on yourself and inspire others to do the same. You must be an example, to focus on yourself first and the world second. I would gladly lay my life down to save the lives of those I love, or even some random person in the street if I knew I could help. I may not be the best at articulating my thoughts, however what I mean to say is that you cannot fight everyone's battles for them. You need to inspire them to fight for themselves, otherwise they don't really want what they say they want do they? Only fight for others when they can't do it by themselves, not when they simply won't. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. For all the women who say they want equal rights and then get mad when the man doesn't always pull out their chair, or pay for dinner, or tale responsibility for the family they clearly have not wanted what they claim to be fighting for, and that goes both ways. It is an admiral trait to give yourself completely to the pursuit of your goals.

Those who wish for an end to the battle will never succeed, those who wish for the opportunity to end the battle are those who deserve it.

The problem lays in over compensation...to "right" one wrong, the law makers over react(or don't fully think through) and end up over compensating...look at reparations...the families of former slave owners being forced to pay the families of former slaves...how is that fair? Punishing the descendants for the actions of their ancestors...punishing an entire gender for the misguided views of a portion of it...banning gun ownership for the actions of a few idiots....

Passing laws to force/coerce others into "equal treatment" is not true equality and will only affect those that are already doing so...you can't forcibly change biases...especially deeply ingrained generational ones...to successfully enable change it takes education, understanding, and time not force...doing it forcibly creates resentment and can make things worse with people that have a rebellious nature....

I was raised to not have racial/gender biases...the majority of people with these sort of biases were raised that way, inheriting their bigotry and most likely passing it on to their kids this is where education, understanding, and time come in...it only takes one person to break the chain...

I keep hearing about these laws that are hurting men, but has anybody listed what laws they are and where they are being enacted?
