Zen Guitar is a great book. The same person also wrote Zen Sex and Zen Computer before he died early of cancer, poor thing.

as stated there are many reasons for one chosing to use a username..for me it was mostly a way to celebrate and identify with the new path I chose to walk upon. it is not a means of hiding behind a name as i am the same person regardless of how i am identified and i have no problemss if someone wished to know my real name as well. now to explain where the name Jarin came from..it is a long time nickname i have used on everything from video games to the internet and holds a special meaning for me. my grandfather used to call me by it and the actual name was Ja Rin which being native american he explained that Ja was the closest english spelling of the word in his language that meant \"little\" and Rin was te closest english spelling for the word in his language that meant \"warrior\" and was also used to mean \"one\". so it translates as a personal nickname of little one and a public one as little warrior. I then chose to identify with it out of respect and love for my grandfather and originally used it on videogames such as romance of the three kingdoms etc. and it just stuck with me

What's your Username mean?
I was going to start a thread asking this question, but I see there is already a pinned topic on it.
I chose Learn_To_Know because it is a big reason why I am in this Temple. Even though I got the idea from Darth Sidious in "Revenge of the Sith" it's still a true principle that I hope to cultivate here.
May The Force Be With Us.

Honestly, I'd rather use my real name, Leena. Leena means many things depending on which way it's spelled. The way mine is spelled, it means illuminating. Lina with an I means a few things like tender and small palm tree in Arabic. My middle name is Anne which means full of grace. I hate my last name, but I can deal with it until marriage. I chose loverofknowledge because I didn't even think at the time that my real name could be my user name. A lot of sites say not to use the real name in your user name. I chose that though because I love learning. However, I think in some cases it'd be more appropriate for me to use loverofwisdom. I guess I've grown some recently. Smile. All that said, my preference is simply Leena.
May the Force be with us all,
Leena

Its short for the firstname in my 'magikal name', which is the deadliest local creature which does not actively hunt for its prey, instead fooling other creatures to attack it mistakingly, and unwittingly thus becoming its prey. Doesn't sound very pleasant but if you do not attack it, it shouldn't attack you. For this it earns some respect from me, but my magikal surname can be intepreted to mean something alone the lines with servant of the Force.

When I first joined the Jedi Community, I went by JediKnightKeiranHalcyon. It was a character from the Star Wars books. I took it on as a sort of avatar of a person I wanted to be. Eventually I just became Keiran Halcyon. Some places I called myself JediMasterKeiranHalcyon, and I was far more vain back then.
I chose Halcyon mostly because it was a persona that was no longer just a mask to hide my identity, it was me. I am Halcyon. While I have a name that was given to me at birth, Halcyon is just as much my name as well. It is a part of my psyche and my very soul. If you were to meet me in real life and call out Halcyon, I would look and respond to it.
I'm far less vain then I was back then, which I suppose comes from experience and time. But I suppose the grand answer to the question was I just did. Didn't give it much thought and just picked a name that I thought sounded cool. After some time it just became me.
May The Force be with you, always.
