Light or Shadow? was created by Alethea Thompson
I find it very interesting that most of you would agree that ToTJO harbours more the Shadow(Grey) Jedi than Light. I am now curious to know why you identify yourselves as such over the other.
What is the difference, in your opinion?

Hmmm, what brought this on, I wonder? ; )
Because there is no 100% right. I figured this out in the Army. Each combatant, or each unintentional civilian casualty, was somebodys father, son, uncle, brother, boyfriend or husband. Each one had hopes and dreams, like me. Each and every one of them. And yet, here we all were, you know? I AM the dark, to them. I AM the all pervading evil in a green suit. So be it. To thate xtent, its true. I no longer fool myself. I can live the rest of my life 'perfectly' as it were, and still with the knowledge of things past, know that I am capable of utterly destroying an enemy if provoked, such as in if someone were to harm my family.
So, I am not 'light'. I am not 'dark'. I am neither, but some of both. Grey.

I try to avoid making such distinctions about myself these days.
If others wish to brand me with labels and presuppositions that is their choice and has little to do with me. It is my actions that reveal who I am to others and to myself.
"The closer you get to the light the larger your shadow becomes," so why seek the light at all? (Kudos to a marvelous video game for that paraphrased quotation.) Light depends on Dark as much as Dark depends on Light. Even the sun casts a shadow from our vantage point on earth.

I started a similar thread
here
before, and what it ended up showing was how everyone has totally different ideas of what it means to be 'light', 'shadow', 'grey', 'dark', or anything else! I know that you are based mainly at FA, and I would hazard a guess that FA have slightly more definite definitions of each seeing as your members join one of the aspects.
My observation is that many of the members here take a similar line to Desolous - that we all have both light and dark in us, and therefore we are grey or shadow Jedi.
I see it differently. Of course we all have light and dark in us...if that was how you decided what path to follow we couldn't be anything other than grey/shadow.
So to me, it's about intentions and motives. My focus is always on helping others and the 'greater good', and achieving harmony and peace. I do not use my Jedi training or my connection to the Force for selfish means or personal ambition. I hold myself to the highest standards of behaviour and etiquette at all times. Obviously there is a lot more to it than that but...these are the sorts of things that cause me to class myself as following the 'light' path.
So if I was hypothetically categorising people based on my view of what it means to be light or shadow, I would think that there would be more light members here than shadow. Or certainly more than it sometimes appears.
But I guess as TOTJO does not have an official stance on what it means to be one or the other, everyone has a right to abide by their own personal definitions, and so I am happy to accept that most people here are grey/shadow - because that is how they see themselves.

you know what desolous grey is colour but in the light of the force there is one side there no both side there no boatsm lol. there is what we call positivity. in life when somebody protect his planet from destruction like nuclear war to arrest those who completely unconscious of the effect of the war is it not an easy task.
But let say that your are in fact contributed to prevent many bad consequence's well is it in fact to my knowledge a good act.But people who wore there, how come they didn't do nothing about it.How come there army a human or the police or a good jedi didn't do nothing to prevent the war .Big question there but collaterally damaged exist , But by destroying the threat of nuclear power you save the earth .And in fact if a soldier haven't done anything we wore all going die.
My point really we you do your contribution for saving your own habitat well you are in the light side of the force .And that's my point view
Have a day

*smiles* I asked because I saw (within24 hours) the same comment about ToTJO having more grey than light. I had to wonder why that is.
It is interesting you would bring up action against criminals as a way to determine your light or shadow. In the fiction (man, I've really been using this too much...but I guess that is the language everyone can relate too...I'm not a SW fan myself) Jedi were proponents of action. They acted within the confides of the law, without an attachment to things like revenge. They were level headed in their decisions (or at st strived to be) and were aware of their emotions towards a situation so as to hopefully catch themselves before they acted based on those emotions.
So I am curious about the nature which you define the difference on a deeper level than the mere surface. ^^

Definitely Shadow over here.
And I think that by "grey" wen referring to totjo in general, what we mean is that we're not self-proclaimed do-goodies. We know very well we're not whiter than white.

I'm not sure I am clear on your question, alethea. Especially as to my knowledge, there weren't 'criminals' in Iraq (outside of ruling Baathists) til we got in country and declared them as such. And I know that if someone came and 'liberated' this country then hung around for years, they wouldn not be warmly welcomed. Its no different here. So the entire situation, on both sides, was muddled. There were few winners in it.

I have a different angle on it, I reject the dark being bad and therefore associate it differently. What a lot of people call dark or shadow I just consider inefficient, mishandled or illogical processes of the body and mind. That then means calling someone a grey Jedi is almost like saying their just not very good at being a Jedi!! LOL, but I know thats not the intention, and mean no offense to anyone using those terms as I'm only talking about intepretation within my own model of the Force. So I tend to think there is either a light approach or a dark approach but in effect no real grey because if its not one, then it becomes the other. Too complicated to try and get into now as weekends are super busy for me. All my own opinion though of course, and subject to change.

Althea...
I've heard more claims of being "grey" from our members than either "light" or "dark"...
I will answer for myself...
Here I sit, with my phone in my hand...
Lets tell you about me....
Lets start with the psyche, I call myself jestor... Now jestor is not very descriptive, why choose that name? Is he a fool? Does he fancy himself funny?
And in ever expanding circles of definition, so you can see me mentally, I'll draw a picture...
First, I'm male, as opposed to female... I'm 5‘10“, 250-260 pounds, white, blue eyes, bald, I've got a tattoo or two here and there... Slightly bow-legged, not enough to drive a horse through, but, my legs dont touch from top to ankle... lol.. I'm hetro, I left that out in that other thread... lol...
So, now by this description, you've got an idea of who I am, physically...
Who else? Or what else?
I barely graduated from high school, no college... I tell you I'm a Jedi, and as you know what a Jedi is, like you know bald is, it gives you an idea of what, and how, I think...
But you want further knowledge of me.. what kinda Jedi? Well, I'm not light, all sunshine and rainbows... Nor dark, all doom and gloom... So i tell you grey...
Now, why grey, you ask... So i say, well, I'm a good guy, and i try to always do right, but i acknowledge I might do wrong occasionally...
Well, maybe since I always try to do right, maybe I'm a "light grey".... I do like the dark humor still.. darker grey?
Hmmm.....
Lol...
Picture me? This description is for you, the reader...
Now erase it... Back all the way to the beginning...
I'm just jestor...
These words I used, are just symbols we can all agree on for a loose definition, to put a mental picture of me, in your thoughts...
There is more, of course, I could further use to pidgeon hole me, but as the world is in continual motion, this definition is ever growing and expanding...
Its why we don't agree on who is a Jedi? When really, we all are... Heartland Jedi, Jedi Realists, IJRS Jedi... TOTJO Jedi... FA Jedi.. individual Jedi...
And why Sith have the same trouble... Because of the preconceived notion of what they are...
People who keep questioning simply don't understand, somethings, simply "are"...
Only when that person seeks to understand that they get these other words to be compared to...
Lol, I hope I made sense...
