It has become evident, through the many different conversations that I've had with everyone over the course of my time here, that there are lots of different views floating around about what it means to follow each of the different paths in Jediism - for example; light, grey, shadow, and dark.

For instance, one person who believes themselves to be a grey Jedi might understand that to mean something totally different from another grey Jedi.

Some people, it seems, are not really even sure what any of the paths mean and perhaps make assumptions about them and classify themselves as one thing when they are actually another.

I know that not everyone believes in these different paths - but if you do - what does your path mean to you?

I'll start...I follow the light path. This does not mean that I have no dark within me - quite the contrary in fact. Everyone has dark aspects within themselves. I think this is a common misconception about the light path. What it concerns is what you choose to DO - the light path means to use the Force only in a positive way, to help other people and not for selfish means. At least...that what it means to me!

Good topic, V-Tog! There are limitless variations on the Jedi Path.

For me, I am purely a Light Jedi. But, Light for me has a different meaning I guess. If you were to try and pin me down, you'd have to combine elements of Jedi with parts of Buddhism with parts of Taoism and even parts of Stoicism. I am unmoved by Light and Dark, but I follow Light because it is in accordance with Nature to increase the livability of the world. Because I am impermanent, to try and ruin the lives of the world for my own advancement would be futile. To try and help the world to make it better is equally futile. So, it obviously isn't a question of making a difference. For me, it's a question of just living. I want to do something with my life for the better of the world so that I will have the experience of doing so. I feel that Nature too has a beginning and an end. But, that doesn't stop it from doing its job. It runs like clockwork but does respond to artificial stimuli. So do it. I will run for the advancement of Nature, but I am fluid as the river. I am tossed whichever way, but I am still a river. Ever flowing, always changing. But, just as a river, I have a beginning and an end. Usually, they flow into the Whole. The Ocean. Or, the Lake. The Whole. The natural process even defies logic. The Nile goes up to get to the Mediterranean. We are going toward the Whole. Why fight it? Why take the Dark path when the Light is so much more natural and in accordance with Nature?

I'm not saying anything is more right or wrong. That's not the point.

It's either accordance or discordance with Nature.

I don't really feel as though the paths taken are very concrete, specific or universally applicable. For me the temple is so excellent because everything you learn you take what you want from, there are no right or wrong answers. This means that people take the things that work for them and that make them happy and apply them to their lives. This means that everyone is following the path that is right for them / makes them happy and I kinda feel that each person's 'path' is different.

My path is whatever I decide it to be. My path is one of being a Jedi because I decide it to be

I'll leave it up to others to decide where they put me in relation to everything else

But I'm just me

Akkarin, do you put any stake in labels used by other people on you? Or, do you think they don't matter? (read that without an antagonizing tone)

Hehe. Excellent.

Re: Jedi Paths 28 Jun 2012 01:46 #65325

To me this topic seems more about aspects of the force verse path of the jedi. Funny enough my 3rd show was about paths of the Jedi perhaps you will find that useful.
May the force bless you with guidance, strength, love and light.

For me, I think positive and negative are ineffective for defining how people relate to the Force, and as I see no place for evil in the Force (evil is just a persons behaviour) then I feel its a waste to throw the dark side into the bad corner.

I tend to view these paths to be how people decide to relate to the Force, dark being unrestrained by morals, not to be immoral but rather to be flexible, whereas light is structured more into morality specifically because its focus is outwards to others - whereas the dark path does not need to focus outwards because its focus could be considered inwards. Since the dark path might then have less moral structure (perhaps) then it would make sense that its easy for people to fall... not to the dark side, but from the dark side IMO.

That in no ways implies the light side doesnt include focus inwards, I'm just referring really broadly to how I see things relating for practical use. I have a pretty good conceptualization of how it might work best for me and in that model a grey would be someone who trains in both styles of light and dark, whereas light only trains in light and dark only trains in dark so as to have higher empowerment in those areas.

The Path itself is just that, a path. It is in the way we travel that path that makes us light or dark or grey. To me the Path is preset. The Path is the journey from birth to death.

The Path has many sidewalks that lead us to different adventures, but in the end, you end where you started, A Part of the Universal Consciousness that is The Force.

In my adventures down the many walkways of life, I choose to do no harm to others, to help where I can so that my fellow path walkers can also enjoy their path. You may call it light side, I may call it light side, but in the end we are all in this together. So why not love, laugh, and enjoy our time together as friends?

    • Quote: Quote: Thanks for all the advice. On the one hand you can fight, on the other you can give up. I suppose the deciding factor would be whether it's a fight that can be won. Perhaps getting asylum is a win-win? I can go on with my life and voice my objections to tyranny. Can I change the gov't? no, I've tried. Can I change the beliefs of others? maybe. Will I be able to change enough people's beliefs to win? probably not. So what countries would grant asylum? I already know Canada is out and so is most of the EU because they're all buddies with the US... No extradition treaty between US and France. Besides, France is the US' oldest ally but they're never gonna suck it up to anyone who consumes "imitation american cheese" :D I'm not worried about being extradited. My concern is getting political asylum. Many countries deem the US as safe, free from tyranny, etc. Many of them outright reject all asylum applications from US citizens.

    • Yes RyuJin well said. I do believe that if they had any real power they would not be so open about themselves in the way that they are. They seem to allow their darkest secrets to unfold like a book. When they speak they do not sound confident. By all appearances they seem to be living out a fantasy but I never assume when I do not know. That is the best policy in my opinion. I am focusing my use of energy working and magic to heal. I want to create and not destroy. I believe that it is a waste of effort to use your abilities, or talents, whatever they may be, to hurt others. When I look at the philosophy of the Sith Academy, and then look at what my philosophy was before, I see that they are similar in essence, but they are both truly pointless. What is the purpose of domination? Conquest of that which already exists, to convert all of reality into your own image, it is a waste of time. What happens when, theoretically, all reality is under your control? Everything would conform with everything else. Everything would be the same but you are at a dead end. Where do you go from there? If you have nothing left to conquer or destroy then your motives have been exhausted. You no longer have a purpose. Creation however, is limitless, and there is no end to creating. All things that are created in this dimension must decay however, but more is created in place of what has departed, and I believe that most life reincarnates. Those who live only for domination or destruction lead an empty life. By remembering that emptiness I am inspired to keep struggling against my own temptations to fall back into that old life of self destruction.

    • May have nothing to do with homosexuality. 18 year old "going out" with a 15 year old is paedophilia: An adult engaging in sexual acts with a child (someone under 16). Some parents are going to be cool with it, gay or hetero, some aren't. Either way, if the law says it isn't cool, don't complain when you get caught. Not sure why they call it "battery" though ?

The ability to overcome the egos need to control instinct is a very helpful tool in your Jedi toolbox.

    • God vs Ego (Last post by Leandros Von)
    • Quote: One has to remember, there is no such thing as good or evil, its all about power. I think you may have misunderstood the intention of my ramblings MurMur, this was never about God as a deity it was my way of breaking down the differences between the ego brain and true consciousness. I chose to use the mythology as a method of explaining the internal conflict and the transcendence of it. Quote: I think the word "god" leaves a bitter taste in most people's mouths, but in this case, "god" is a word meaning your own, personal "higher self", not a religious god. Thank you Master, I suppose the use of the term "GOD" is very much misrepresented at times, as you have stated what I meant by god is the part of you that is "GOD" (the force), whether the god is good or evil is irrelevant, it still created the ego self and as such is the true spirit and driving force behind the illusion of what we are. Though I also suppose that in using the word god I was talking about the mythical concept of a god that is there for our fragile ego to grasp upon until true enlightenment comes through mythological translation of the holy scriptures.
    • Is the Bible the Literal Word of God? (Last post by Azrael)
    • Even though in the early years of my life i was raised a Christian, i could never take the Bible seriously. In my mind there were some good lessons yes but a lot of what i heard stood out as being no different from the fairy tales my mum and dad told me when i was small. Noahs ark for example or Moses parting the Red Sea.. One must bare in mind that while the Bible is in places trying to give a moral lesson (perhaps not in the most straightforward way) large tracts of it, the Old Testament in particular was written at a time when people still believed the Sun was a man in a chariot flying across the sky or thunder was an expression of the gods anger. Much of it was mans early attempts to explain and educate people on how the world and nature worked and even came into being when infact they had no proof. Indeed, even today, we still largely lack a lot of proof for much of this. While there are SOME lessons to be learned, much of it is pure myth. I cannot treat the story of Genesis any more seriously than the story of the Norse creation myth, how the first gods came out of a giants armpit.
    • Shadow Being (Last post by MurMur)
    • Shadow beings are those people or entities who are still here in our plane of existence. People do not understand that just because the body dies does not mean that that person is non-existent. Shadow people are just energy in a form that we are not aware of or that we can fully comprehend. I have seen shadow people and have had multiple experiences obtaining to shadow people. Not all shadow people are people who can not move on to the next plain of existence. Some of entities who are here for reasons only they know of, if they even know. Death is nothing but a phase in the existence of life.
