The American gun Laws.....can it remain as it is?

Armed police exists. But they don't patrol the streets. They're a special force... attached to the ministry of defence (the military).
And why would british police be scared of guns? They're such a rare occurence their biggest fears are 2cm long pocket knives and drunk people on friday night... I can live with that...
0.04 UK gun homicide rate vs 3.6 in the us... That's 90 times more likely to be shot dead in the US than in the UK...
I was talking about US police...the knife comment. Should have been more clear about that, I guess.
I don't know about you, but I'd personally rather be shot than stabbed...not that I'd want either but...I guess people don't seem to realize that knives are potentially more dangerous and scary. All they know is what the media sensationalizes. And that's the problem. The media is not there to report factual news. It's a business and businesses like to make money. Therefore they amp up stories and distort facts.
Why is it you dislike gun ownership so? Is it because of what you've seen on the news? Because from where I stand, I'm assuming I've met far more gun owners than you and based on personal experience I can say they are all law abiding, caring, and responsible citizens. Teachers, soldiers, cops, nurses, ranchers, business owners, doctors, etc. They are people too and they deserve their rights and safety just as much as anyone else.

I have a criminal background.
And I travel too..
And I worked for the ministry of defense.
I've seen plenty of them.
I've been attacked with a knife and all it left is a small scar on my right index finger. Can't complain.
Now maybe I'm biased because i can dodge knife blades and not bullets....
Convictions are more dangerous foes of truth than lies.

Well I'm glad you were able to dodge it...or at least not get hurt too badly.

The same can not be said for a few of my friends.

Not everyone can dodge a knife.

And what did he say about if you're the only one with a gun it's easy to be brave? Easier to take advantage of people. Hmmm... He made a good point.

1. the vast, vast majority of crimes with guns are with black market guns, not guns owned by citizens who have properly registered them. there is little to no way to reclaim these black market guns and they will continue to be used in violent crimes against civilians.
2. the police are under no responsibility to protect individuals, their duty is to the public at large. the police officer is only going to come to a dispute AFTER it happens, not before, just like a security camera isn't going to rush to your rescue if you are being attacked. Meanwhile a gun nearby can halt an attack in progress and if absolutely necessary neutralize the assailant to protect the life of the victim.
3. other means of self defense do not have the same equalizing / neutralizing power as a gun. i am a short and physically weak woman, but with a gun I am the equal of a 200 pound wrestler. there is virtually no other way that I would be able to hold my own against someone so much larger than myself.
4. other means of self defense are not as trustworthy as they may appear. martial arts masters are often defeated by street fighters. MACE/Pepper spray is often not effective on people who are desensitized to pain by frequent fighting or individuals under the influence of drugs. Knives require a lot of training and strength to be able to use effectively, and a victim using one is at risk of having the knife snatched and used against a victim
5. the NRA urges gun owners to attend classes to use guns responsibly and distributes literature at its own cost to ensure that people understand gun safety and gun laws.
6. although gun tragedies are often reported, very rarely are successful self-defense cases reported in the news, so most people are unaware of the statistics of how often armed citizens have been able to save lives.
