I sort of doubt it would make a difference. People are still people, regardless of orientation. And people have a tendency to mess up relationships like its going out of style.

While I'm extremely happy that the US is slowly laying the groundwork for marriage equality. I'm sad that this was ever an issue in the first place. I mean, it's not like who you love affects anyone else besides yourself and your partner!

I'm all for gay marriage. I just had a question...or a few.

Are there any benefits to marriage? I keep hearing of older folks getting divorced because being married is more expensive. (In the States that is)

And I don't understand how it needs to be put in a law. Is gay marriage actually illegal??? How is it a governmental issue? Isn't it just a personal one and shouldn't it be unconstitutional/illegal to refuse marriage between a consenting couple? Society is so confusing sometimes.

You've hit the nail right on the head! Once the government made marriage an institution and offered benefits for married couples, it should've been open for anyone. Denying homosexuals the right to this institution based on other peoples own foolish beliefs is discrimination plain and simple.

Wow, I really resurrected a serious topic, didn't I? (page 3, dead from 2012-10-20 to 2013-02-22). See, I think the divorce percentage will drop 10% easily. Some LGBTQI don't want anything to do with marriage. ("We've been fine without it all this time, and America doesn't want to give it to us anyway!") I think they're in the minority. For the rest, I earnestly believe that they cherish their relationships more. How many heteros are in FRIVOLOUS marriages? (Hollywood celebs account for a chunk of the percentage, I'm sure. : ) "Business marriages" and the like. "Test" marriages. Bleh. You know what I'm getting at. So yeah, blame me for this topic being up at the forefront again. :(

I was really shocked when I came back to the US after living in Thailand and Indonesia for 4 years; one of the big shocks was the American attitudes towards homosexuals/bi/trans/etc. I got so used to being around gays/trans as a teacher and society was so accepting that it just became normal.

Another shock is how uptight people are about sex in the US. No wonder there's so much violence... cause nobody's getting laid.

I hadn't really thought about sexual orientation on this site until I read this thread. Before I read it I was like "hey these people are really tolerant and remind me of Thailand".

I think jediism is agnostic to sexual orientation and it falls under that category of "know thyself".

Few are those who see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts.
