Then please explain because I've read this thing start to finish more then once and all I see is far flung excuses about possible bad behavior which active vs inactive will do nothing to deter and wont change that people will link them to the Temple no matter what is said.
The only other thing I see is that people knowing I was in the military would be a fine excuse for sudden absences but someone getting hit by a truck or a divorce ( which is just as bad as Ive experienced both) is not good enough to keep them from having to do extra work when they show back up to a place that should feel like home.

Nobody gets carte blanche knighthood here. I've seen people go from knight to guest overnight. I've seen people disappear for 2 years and come back as guests and get reinstated back to knights based on the past. So yeah it's really a case-by-case thing and nobody gets tenure.

Few are those who see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts.

I am one of those Knights that has been active and inactive for long periods. I may well be part of the reason we have the active/inactive status today.

I deploy for long periods without access to the TOTJO. When I deploy I become inactive, even though I treat my departure as Jedi field work and use the Teachings in the field, Teachings in Motion.

When I return, I remained inactive until the Council and I agreed I was active again. This transition back to active status gave me the time I needed to read the Forums, understand any policy changes during my absence, and adjust back to life here at TOTJO. I did not feel it a slight or a pain to become active again.

We are a living evolving Temple and when we leave for long periods, we come back to a different Temple. It takes time to adjust, learn the new policies, meet the new members, etc....

Hatter, why do you say "more work"?

When you leave, vacation, illness, whatever, heck, just the weekend from work, do not sometimes you need a bit of time (minutes to hours, maybe days) when you return?

Catch up on phone calls, new papers on desk, emails, picking up.projects, etc...

I traveled the US, and when i returned home, despite phone calls and post cards home, I was different, and so was my house...

A new stain on the rug, kid lost a tooth, dishwasher broke, car out of gas, bills are STILL there... And that shirt back takes a minute or two to get my bearings...

Same here...

Meet the newer folks, look for updates....

This isn't punishment for deployment, which people usually have notice for.... Or car accidents, or, or...

Which, lets be honest, are the exception, not the rule....

Most folks wander off out of boredom, anyone truly invvested, does what they can to be considerate...

Dontcha think?

On walk-about...

Sith ain't Evil...
Jedi ain't Saints....

So you're an advocate of Apprenticeships and Knighthoods without any responsibility tied to them at all?

I am an Advocate of being a Jedi no matter you rank or status in your every day, daily lives. This temple is just a pit stop in my day and If i have time to help this temple I will....But it is NOT my defining purpose in life.

If I want to give back to this temple, I will take on a JOB and do so. Knight or not.

If you want to give back? I would hope that one would become a knight in order to give back.. If that is not your intention perhaps you should reconsider.

Then why do you care so much what happens here? You spend an inordinate amount of time arguing policy in threads for someone who feels this place is a "pit stop."

If I want to give back to this temple, I will take on a JOB and do so. Knight or not.

Knighthood is not a title of achievement. It is a title of service. It doesn't simply mark what you've accomplished, it marks you as someone who has a greater responsibility to the Temple and its members. To ignore that and simply grab the title and run speaks poorly of the people, motives, and investments it took to get you that shiny new rank badge.

Perhaps I should. Since my integrity is clearly based on how I service this temple alone rather than how I behave and service life around me.

I will let Jestor. My Instructor here. Determine if I am a Knight or not by this temple standards. I will help when and where I can. But my life comes first....If this temple can't respect that....then I bid you my Adieu.
