No badge swapping....

And Steamboat, yes, that's kinda how we decided...

Wescli's questions were rhetorical, ;)....

He was more lamenting how difficult it is to just say "your inactive" to someone...

Its a sliding scale, and I believe Akkarin reaches out giving the one month to respond before "inactive is applied"....

And, no, consistent activity for three months gets you off the "inactive list"....

Too many former knights return for 2-3 weeks, the disappear again and create more work for us, trying to track them...

On walk-about...

Jedi ain't Saints....

What is active? What is inactive? How long to hold someone inactive once they returned? How long to hold someone as active once we realize we haven't heard form them?

It all boils down to judgment. Make a decision. Stop being afraid of making a mistake, decide and deal with it. More talk and discussion only perpetuates indecisiveness. Right or wrong do your best. You can't please everyone but if you've done your best what else can you do, wait for things to be perfect? That will take....forever! ;)

My original intent, clean out the dead wood.

That is one of my points. They waste peoples energy and temple resources. Poop or get off the pot. :) Give them a them a cut off date. Deal with the exceptions. I suspect they will be few, whiners of course will always be whiners. :)

Connor L. wrote: This is the way I feel it should be (please understand this is just my unimportant opinion):

The academic education should be separate from the responsibilities of knighthood.

If somebody wants to study Jediism and the ways of the Force without a Knighthood track, they should be able to.

So, I believe I still have my A Division degree from the temple, which is 200 credits. I am glad this is that way. I wish I could also receive a B Division without becoming a Knight again. Is that possible?

I say this because:
The Knighthood track is one of responsibility to the temple.
You study here. You give back. And, you are part of the system. The oath you take binds you to this until you rescind it.

However, perhaps I never wanted to be a Knight (this is fiction!). What if I had done the IP, done an apprenticeship, gotten my A division, then continued to study to get the B Division?

i fully agree with this....i've said for years that the degree system should be separate from knighthood, i'd even be ok with having the degree required for ranks, while ranks are not required for the degrees...i even used the same argument...not everyone that studies the degree lessons wants to be a knight, not everyone wants the degree....having the degree required for ranks does weed out some of the rank grabbing with the workload it requires...

The question then becomes... how does one achieve the rank if the degrees are "separate".

Say Sally gets A Div. degree. Then, a few months later she decides she'd like to take on the mantle of Knighthood. What is to be done in that situation?

if she hasn't done an apprenticeship, then that would have to be done. if she has, then there would likely have to be some sort of trials....

I dunno. I sort of feel there is some merit for them to be related and connected... with the intended outcome/experience being the development of insight derived from both the practice (doctrine etc, living Jedi) and study. Quite literally having both academic and practical components.

Not just the academic study of 'stuff'. I think the advantage of having one as one and the other is the other is that they allow different rates of progression to occur in the different natures of material and engagement, without breaking the relationship. I guess it depends what is intended to be derived from the experience. Sure we could completely break them apart but it seems like a wasted opportunity.

I feel the connection of them allows the degrees here to stand more earnestly as objects of depth, rather then just another online academic degree.

Personally I feel the Studies and education SHOULD Be connected to the Education. That is after all Traditional to Jedi.

The Jobs and Duties themselves however.....shouldn't. They should be defined under their own "Job Titles"

Just my....as is being said often these days....Unimportant Opinion.

Edit: Aaaaand you can tell I've had a crazy night >_> I meant.

To start out with this is just my opinion and I may come across as bullheaded or less then kind in the tone. This is me being a tad salty as I am prior military and view the rank of knight like any earned military rank.

When one earns a rank in the military nothing but misconduct or you giving it up can take it from you. This is how I believe it should be with those that earn the rank/title of knighthood. They worked to get to that level why should they lose it because life takes them away from an online forum? Can we know what caused this? Whose business is it to begin with unless they choose to share it?

Once a soldier, sailor, Marine, or airmen ALWAYS a soldier, sailor, Marine, or airmen. To say otherwise is considered a great insult by many that served. I feel the same way about those that have earned knighthood. Once a Knight always a Knight unless you disgrace the title or give it up.
