Most people this day and age are drug users...if not addicted. Caffeine being one of the most used. The only difference is law. Nicotine, alcohol, and caffeine are considers okay and maybe even cool to use. But all three are addictive and, at times, destructive.

Why should a pot trafficker be sentenced to death but not the people who sell you your cigarettes?

Destructive with misuse. I can't believe I'm actually writing a paragraph to justify soda, but I feel I need to say everything very clear and simply.

First off, I don't buy the "addiction" excuse. I've put down soda for up to year-long periods. Same with alcohol and cigarettes. When I started smoking again this past fall, I had not had a single cigarette in four years, as I had previously been a smoker, and quit all at once, no patches, no gradual reduction. There is no "addiction," at least not with soda, tobacco, and alcohol just lack of self control. I myself smoked my last cigarette for a long time, or, perhaps, forever today. My drinking was becoming unhealthy and not congenial to my responsibilities as a father, so in March of this year, I swore off liquor, and now only drink beer. Alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine do not create a dependence like many illegal drugs do, so please, nobody try that one again.

As for why drug traffickers should get death, it's situational and depends on region. I don't think even Malaysian or Singaporean drug laws would stop the drug issue in the USA, no matter how many immigrants we fried. However, what I'm most concerned about is the prevailing attitude toward drugs. Many people see nothing wrong with use of marijuana or even other drugs. That is what bothers me.

Does anyone else see the irony in this?

I don't get what you mean. Neither do I get what you are trying to argue. Rather than trying to find ways to attack me personally, why don't you explain to me why exactly it would be wise or safe to permit drug users to do their thing unchecked.

Nicotine does cause dependence. That's why people have such a hard time quitting, suffer withdrawal, and often choose to spend money on cigarettes instead of things like dentist and doctor's visits that they desperately need. Caffeine is also very addictive. I know plenty of people who get shaky and have headaches and sometimes migraines when they don't get enough caffeine. Perhaps you just don't get addicted to things very easily, but those are substances that can be very addictive to a lot of people.

Or your friends may be like me, and understand the fact that doctors are pure evil, and it's better to face death with dignity than to patronize them. And also, ROFL, liberals and their coffee...

Nicotine is addictive, but it's actually pretty good for health. It doesn't make people more dangerous, unlike alcohol and other drugs (legal or not).

Convictions are more dangerous foes of truth than lies.
