The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence...

I've known mindas for quite a while through totjo and jrc...while we haven't met nor talked to each other often I know that he's the type for which seeing is believing..there is no crime in wanting proof of something in order to accept its validity, many find his "lack of faith disturbing" but it is his right and choice...

My psychology professor always told us "believe half of what you see and none of what you hear"...later I changed it to "believe half of what you see, none of what you hear, and question everything".that is basically all mindas is doing..

our senses of sight and sound are the easiest to fool...

To experience some things we have to have a degree of open mindedness and be willing to take things on faith occassionally...this is much easier for some than it is for others

Exactly.

It's why my metallic Yoda hanging in my truck is really a traffic god that clears the road for me on my way to work. And when their is a traffic jam, Yoda was obviously sleeping.

Haha. (Sorry, I took a jab at the "argument from ignorance".)

---

Questioning and asking for evidence is what led me here. One man's evidence is another man's folly. It will always be so. This is similar to the miracles thread SeanChing started. A miracle to me is a statistical anomaly to another guy; it's just the way it is. At least we're civil about it...mostly :)

(I like the discussion this topic has generated; it's almost always a guarantee to spark discussion when you put devil in the subject line.)

You know...thinking about this some more, Reiki (and the believers and non-believers) can be similarly compared to religion, diets, meditation, and I'm sure lots of other things in general.

If someone tells me that Reiki works for them, I'll believe them! Why shouldn't I believe them?

To me it's the same thing as someone else telling me that the South Beach diet worked for them. Great. I believe you!

But, Reiki doesn't work for this subgroup, the South Beach diet failed for that subgroup, and some people hate meditation. It's because we're all wired differently (which Phortis alluded to earlier).

I'm not a skeptic of people's personal experiences per se. It's when I'm told their personal experience should dictate how I should live and what should be true to me. Or if I'm told I'm deluded because I don't see what's "obviously" true to them. Then I become extremely skeptical and want proof, evidence, etc.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is just because I don't get how a Catholic can be comforted by rosary beeds doesn't mean they don't get comforted by it. Same way others won't understand how I am comforted just sitting in a forest and soaking up the energy there. Doesn't mean it's not real to me.

Same goes for Reiki...

(Oh yeah, and it's not the devil's work. I think I said that already, but I figured I'd end the post with something that was on-topic, haha.)

I'm not sure if anyone has said anything along these lines; but this thread is rather long so I'll just say it anyway.

Let me just tell you a few things about the two things that are being proposed as synonomous ("said are the same")

Reiki: Has roots in zen buddhism. It's main teaching being, loving others rather than oneself (quite literally)

Devil Worship: Worshiping oneself.

So this infact puts the devils work and reiki as direct oposites! :D :/ B) :( :) :cheer: ;)

I'll be honest, I only really took the Reiki 1 course to help out a friend. She was desperate to do the course and asked if I would come along with her. Personally I thought it was just a load of Mumbo, Jumbo.

The weekend was to be honest full of very nice people and a relaxing ambiance. Though I thought I hadn't really learn't much at all, didn't have a feeling enlightenment or revelation that some of the other ladies had..

On the Sunday night when I got home, my husband was agitated and aggressive (at the time I wasn;t aware he was having his mental break down).

I got him on the bed and put on some soft playing music and just did what I have been shown. Only 20 minutes into the session and I had to stop. I;d really only covered his upper body. I felt sick to the stomach and I felt so heavy I was almost lying on top of my husband. I said I had to stop what I was doing and he asked me not to because he said he left like the weight of the world had been lifted off his shoulders. He said he hadn't left so calm and relaxed for a long time..

That was when my feelings about Reiki changed. My husband slept 12 hours that night...

hello there,

i am new to the jedi order but i will say i'm not new to the "metaphysical" and especially not Reiki.

i am a 22 yrs practicing wiccan and a 12 year Reiki master/teacher. whoever taught you reiki left out alot of things that will let ypu drop/ground that kind of energy if you get it as a "feedback" so to speak. first of all that energy was is you took on whatever he was feeling.

now when your doing reiki the general rule is which ever hand you use to write with is your dominant hand and your other hand is the submissive. (like with myself i am left handed so that means that is the hand i send reiki out through)so how reiki works is first off reiki is a smart energy and all that means is it is not that important to do the hand placements the energy will go where ever it is needed on its own when it comes to your dominant hand though that is the hand you send the energy out of you and then with your submissive hand (the hand you don't use to write with) you receive the energy back. that was why you felt the way you did. you drew in his energy and took on what it was that he was feeling. think of reiki as water flowing from you dominant hand (out of you and into the person your trying to help) and then flowing through them back into you with your submissive hand just like a small creek of water flowing through you like a small circle. in and out in a continual flow of water.

now as you are doing that leave your submissive hand on your patient and once in awhile take your sending hand (dominant hand) off of them and aim your palm toward the ground. imagining the negative energy being drawn from you out of them and going into the ground that will ground out that energy leaving you feeling alot better. once you are cpmpletly done though if you do feel like you have taken on energy like that imagine a white flat circle above your head and then imagine the disk flowing down your body from head to toe going all the way through you until the disk goes through you from head to toe and into the ground below your feet. once again grounding the energy. now as a secondary precaution what i like to do is eat something thats made of grain like a piece of bread some pasta etc. them kinds of foods are a natural energy grounder when a person eats them.

i hope this help you a bit. if you'd like send me a quick note and tell me how it works or if yoy have any other questions. shoot me an email if you'd like bayles72@comcast.net is mt email.

"the force be with you."

p.s. have you noticed your hands getting warm when you do reiki yet?? thats a good indication your reiki is on so to speak. the day i got my 3rd degree training and attunement symbols. i was doing reiki on my wife and i was wearing a few rings at the time. i had to pull off cause my hands were getting so hot my rings started burning her.

I've been a massage/holistic/ beauty therapist for nearly 16 year and from the start until I am unwell when ever I do any treatment my hands are always hot. Some times client/patients have said my hand were too hot and asked me to take them off them. I believe I gained this because when I started to learn massage is was purely to help my mother in her last few months of life. I believe that her spirit was half in this world and half in the next. Thus the healing power of the universe was easier to tap into. I believe that this form of healing may not have helped my mother but stayed around me. Abit like an eco..

Many times over the last 15 years I have done massage, aromatherpy, Indian Head Massage and Reflexology for mediums, spiritualist and the like, each has told me I am a healer. I take comfort that although I was unable to help my mother, because of where her spirit was in between two worlds she left me this gift..

I been practising Reiki now for just over 3 years and I have to say, this continued learning of humanity/ spirituality and harmony never ends..

You ever considered teaching Massage Therapy rather than just being a Massage Therapist? I don't know how receptive the schools are that you have in the UK, but in Austin, TX I once went to a school for acupuncture that my friend was also learning Massage Therapy at. They taught all sorts of alternative medicine courses- I think they may have covered Reiki as well.

But I think it would be cool if you opened up a school of some sort where you were able to pass along your talents to others- everything from the basics of massage therapy to incorporating energy healing into it.

Goddess you are 100% right in saying it never ends. there are things i i still find myself learning about healing especially in rieki there are constantly people have found or discover new reiki symbols that existed for millions of years but have not been known to us as humans.

i have heard of instances of healer getting "hot hands" as its called way before they are doing reiki and the theory of that is that it is a sort of a friction from the energies are passing to and from you and the clients.

now heres a thought for you and i have had this happen to me a few times as i do reiki. my hands will get ice cold to the point i have actually had moister condensation on a hot summer day dripping from my palms. the reason for this is because once again reiki is a smart energy and whatever the clients/patient needs from it and it goes to where ever it need to go for them.

Alethea, i would love to oen some sort of school. i have been told by many people that i would be a great teacher of holistic healing techniques. although i don't have a physical degree of aromatherapy, massage therapy, even color therapy i have used these types of healing enegry forms. i have even use different stones for their energies as i do a session, except i take and heat them up slowly doing reiki on them and using them as little "reiki batteries" so to speak that way if my client is starting to have symptoms of there illness and i can not be available they can pull them out of a small pouch and hold them on the spot or in there hands and use the reiki energy i charged them with.
