This vs That.

So if religions are metaphorical rocks and oranges and we're saying that they're completely different and incomparable...

What then do you think about the Campbell assertion that all religions are fundamentally the same?

That they're all searching for the same thing, they just each give it a different name?

Under that way of thinking wouldn't it be like comparing two identical rocks, or two identical oranges? Still incomparable, but because they're so similar rather than because they're so different?

Just food for thought...

Ive been giving this a lot of thought over the weekend, and my original comment that you cant compare them isnt accurate. I think it was a knee jerk "All beliefs are different but valid" reaction. I think that in a way it depends on what you're comparing.

If for example you are comparing Hindusim with Catholocism, it may initially look like oranges and rocks. Hindusism believes that all paths can lead to the light of enlighenment, which is in direct contrast to Catholocism. Hinduism believes in reincarnation, Catholocism doesnt but does admit to life after physical life. Both faiths have a set of moralistic guidelines for daily life and both teach through parabels, and both believe in a single supreme being that is creator and manifestor of all life.

I guess if you break them down you can compare the facets that create a religion, but from a birds eye view they seem incomparable.

Walking, stumbling on these shadowfeet

Part of the seduction of most religions is the idea that if you just say the right things and believe really hard, your salvation will be at hand.

With Jediism. No one is coming to save you. You have to get off your ass and do it yourself - Me

It's all in your perspective...when you think about it reincarnation is another life after death, going to heaven is life after death....nirvana is a place of enlightenment free from suffering, heaven is a place of enlightenment free from suffering....grapefruit vs. Orange on the outside, citrus fruit vs. Citrus fruit on the inside....

What is wrong with being ignorant of something? The way you state that makes it seem as that is something bad or evil. No, ignorance is not bad. It is just a lack of something.

So yes, I am saying that those who do not believe in God are ignorant. But that is not bad as the way you make it seem. In what ways are they ignorant? They are ignorant in faith. They are ignorant in personal experience with God.

Now also I said that everyone has their own path to follow. Some people are just not ready or able to believe in God. There is nothing wrong with not believing in God.

I WILL NEVER SAY YOU ARE WRONG TO NOT BELIEVE IN GOD. I will only say that some are lacking. And in saying this, there is nothing wrong with lacking.

Reason why you can't compare normal religions with each other. Most western (USA) faiths believe that they are the only one that is correct and everything is junk. How can you make a comparison under those basis of thoughts.

I can go where I please and how I please. Who do you think you are to make a RULE for me to follow? Plus on top of that you are making an assumption that I am fleeing to the protection of opinion.

All of what I say IS MY OPINION. You can agree or not. It matters not to me. I do not even care if people respond to me or not. I give my opinion out of the honesty of my heart. Don't like, don't read any more of my posts. Don't like that. Too bad.

there is a difference between ignorance and a lack of something

being ignorant is making the deliberate choice to not understand

it's how discrimination and racism works

again, you established that as fact

then hid behind your opinion

Don't know if you watch the history channel. Have you read Joseph Campbell?

Campbell and many other reports and T.V. shows basically are starting to admit that all myth has its basis in some fact.

Poor job according to whose definition? To yours? Can you even begin that fathom the idea of being aware of all things at once? If not how can you say God is doing a poor job? And once you do experience all things at once through meditation, I personally believe you will change your tune.

BUT THEN AGAIN THIS IS MY OPINION.

What I believe is so complex and hard to put in words. Most people tend to disagree with me eventually.
