The founder of the westboro baptist church has passed away. The church is famous for picketing and protesting gay and lesbians and at soldiers funerals. The church is mainly comprised of his extended family. Since it dose not recognize women as leaders i am hopeful to see the church cult will fall a part.

As much as I would like to see people picketing at his funeral. It would be only better to not see it happen...do what that church cannot do and respect others.

It's some kind of ironic that he was a significant figure in the Civil Rights movement of the sixties. Curious humanity.

I imagine that his friends and loved ones would disagree. Perspective is an odd thing.

I said this a few days ago on social media platforms before he died, but remember:

If you hate Fred Phelps, he wins.

Seriously. Give that a thought. If you react to his death with joy or indifference, you've helped him spread his message that much further.

Stage a protest at his funeral. you know, to honour him and all.

Agreed. Tempting as it may be to subject his memory and followers to the same indignity they dish out as a way of proving a point, it's definitely a "rise above it" type of situation, rather than sinking to his hateful level.

May the Force be with his family. Fingers crossed the organisation dies with him.

They are guaranteed freedom of expression by the city. They go and picket funerals, everyone gets angry at them and does something to try and stop them. The city has then failed to protect them. They sue the city and anyone who tries to hurt them.

Want to beat them? Ignore them.
