Humanity: Altruistic, masochistic, sadistic, and narcissistic. It all comes together in a very amusing drama as ideologies attempt to overcome nature, and then overlap each other. Tide goes in. Tide goes out.
Oh we struggled and wept. We lost millions so those under our banner would know the scales of justice favored us!

I'm amused that the individual thinks its perfectly okay for themselves to be angry, spiteful and resenting but when someone else does it the individual is one of the first to step up and condemn them.

Oh those pesky emotions. Crazy brain chemicals and hormones reacting to external stimuli, and assigned a reaction based on ideological conditioning.

As much as we may not agree with his beliefs, he was Human and all of us Humans are far from perfect. I do not mourn his loss but rather celebrate his life and passing over to be one with the force. I wish him Peace finally

Wasn't that exactly the path the Westboro Church took. I read quite a lot of their literature. They seem to fear everything different and that leads them to hate everyone else. This again leads them to want other people to suffer. Just look at their music video "God hates the World" on Youtube (I won't post the link) and you'll see what I mean.

Still, I think hating these people and wishing them bad would be the wrong approach. If we do that, are we not being just the same as they are? So, although I don't share or condone his views in any way, instead of saying anything bad about him, I will say: "Fred Phelps, may you rest in Peace."

If you honestly feel that way, then that's great.

I don't hate Fred Phelps, nor do I like him. I am simply stating that giant wad of scum, and the maggots he calls friends and family have no value to the rest of society.

See, I am filled with hatred and anger. I joined here in June of last year, and in that (almost a full year's) time, I have been putting on a face trying to convince myself that I can do this whole Jedi thing. I can't forgive those who have wronged me in the past, I want them to suffer. I do not find inherent worth in all life, nor do I believe that all are deserving of help and redemption.

I am what I am, and I'm done hiding from it and trying to change it.

Like I said, if you honestly feel that way, then that's great.

If it were me, I'd be desecrating his grave with my bodily excrement.

Irony.

Walking, stumbling on these shadowfeet

Part of the seduction of most religions is the idea that if you just say the right things and believe really hard, your salvation will be at hand.

With Jediism. No one is coming to save you. You have to get off your ass and do it yourself - Me

Interesting it is to hear an apprentice speak this way.
An apprentice to Br. John no less...

Hey, if there is a hell, this guy is going to see the more interesting parts of it, I can assure you.

But answering his group with hate? That's what they want. That's how they make money. The cause a scene and sue the hell out of anyone who would dare cross the line and break any laws, or cause any slanderous talk, or assault. You'd end up in court, and trust me, their legal counsel would be far better than what you could come up with.

Taking a curry-fueled dump on any memorials dedicated to him would be hilarious and gratifying. But in the end, they'd love it if you did that. Because that dump will be hosed off, probably at your expense, but you'll feel their legal retaliation for years to come. The biggest revenge, as cliche as it is to say, is that of passive resistance. Stop putting them on that damn pedastal, and let them wallow and drown in mediocrity.

Apprentices are entitled to their opinions too. An apprentice is one on one training and is not automatic entitlement. The issue is not title. Plenty of prickly Jedi. It is, as stated, the irony and the obvious lack of awareness of said irony. That a person would be so consumed that become they very thing they condemn. Jedi are not devoid of anger or even hate. It is this overdeveloped sense of justice that often to leads to such emotions when faced with injustice. What training allows (at any stage) is the chance to examine these feelings and understand their roots.

Free expression is important for this exact reason. Titles be damned. In this we open and honesty examine our views of the world together in a safe environment. Explore ourselves and examine the aspects of ourselves that we may have missed. This is the essence of community. To express yourself without fear and see where it may differ with the Jedi Way, if at all, and which is important to the individual. Holding onto to hate or examining the root of that hate. Examining why one feels self-righteous in being the monster to monsters.

As for the original post. People die. They have protested Jedi before. Humorous in my opinion. His passing effects my world none. I doubt it will effect their actions either. *shrugs* We'll find out in time.

As one who is striving for an apprenticeship...
We show and prove by example and the statements we make...
You wanna wear camouflage, or play devils advocate, that is cool, I can respect that out in the "real" world... Here we are Jedi, and this place is considered holy... and thankful I am of the reminder of The Creed... An instrument of peace, I am...
The words chosen, are understandable coming from a member or guest, who has not taken the oath, or followed the IP closely... Not a good look in my opinion of opinions of free speech... He painted a vivid picture, this apprentice... Contradictory math was expressed, to not address this is an injustice to those who are working towards apprenticeship...
I am thankful for his opinion anyhow... I Pardon...
Hate plus hate equals more hate.
I was taught two wrongs do not equal a right...
Forgiveness is where I am coming from...
