You mean like Tae Kwon Do? (Just Kidding!)

I agree totally with the no style is better than another mentality and I've seen a few people who claim their art is superior eat humble pie:woohoo:

Thanks for the link BTW.

that's why bruce lee was so good....\"no one style has all the answers\" \"you must seek many styles and many answers\".

as to the spinning and jumping techniques...they are/can be very useful if set up properly. for example i've used the spinning hook kick as a counter for a punching opponent that was coming from an awkward angle to me. likewise i foolishly tried to use a split kick on 2 opponents and wound up eating dirt...the spinning backfist is another good counter to a punching opponent. the point being you shouldn't avoid learning these techniques, you should however learn when and how to best use them. spinning techniques produce lots of power but are easily avoided, jumping techniques provide an element of surprise but leave you momentarily unbalanced.

No offense taken but yes. YOu tend to find it more so in those that arrose around the WTF and other newer organizations. I actualy was refering more to what is seen \"entertainment karate\" for example XMA and similar type groups.

You are welcome for the link, anf for everyone else that is interested black magazine has put all their issues on Google Books so very good and interesting reading especialy refering to the above paragraph you can actualy see the rise and fall of certain organizations and of course other arts, like what was popular. Good traing.

Considering that it's a victory for me to get up out of my chair without a cry of pain or falling on the floor I can't in good conscience debate the issue but this Parkour business looks interesting.

http://www.americanparkour.com/

I doubt there is a best for Jedi as it will depend on the Jedi.

with the aikido did they make you stand in the \"horse\" stance(aka kibadachi) for a majority of the exercises?....15-20 mins of that stance will make your legs feel like they're made of steel...sooooo painful the first few times...

I did not get the horse stance yet, just alot of up and down from the floor, had not done that in quite some time. as for the parkour,i have seen that before,it does look very cool,i belive that is also called building jumping or urban stealth something like that, very fun to watch and very impressive feats they pull off.

there are three types of martial practices:
1. martial arts
2. martial sports
3. martial traditions.

there are two major distinctions between the martial arts: those with a sword and those without a sword. true or real arts revolve around the sword and other weapons. the ultimate goal of \"empty hands\" styles is to beat or best a armed person. just watch any movie that stars an empty hands fighter.

1. M. tradition - generally kung fu or wu shu. they focus on the historic or \"traditional\" art. they are about the past, keeping it \"real\", forms, kata and such. they are more about showmenship that actual practical sparring. the focus on perfection.

2. M. sport. karate, contact sparring, tkd, judo boxing and bjj
basically, they have rules of engagement. rules limit their application. they create a frame work. at the same time, they emphasize sparring, competition, and application. they are great for training, getting hit, knowing how things really work.

3. M art - JKD, salit, bagwa, shing i, wing chun, Krav maga and others
they have no rules and should have limited focus on tradition. their ultimate focus is application and preservation. they are meant for \"killing people\" and survival.

for me - i prefer a martial art like JKD for my ultimate focus. then i like a martial sport for fitness, training and sparring.

M. traditions are fun for forms and knowing history.

in the end, the ultimate thing to do is spar. a true artist must spar. that is the only way to learn what works and what does not work.
