Because I have to, if you knew realistically you'd probably die on a deserted ocean island, would it stop you from trying to survive and be rescued?

I probably will not succeed, in all of history only two other humans have completed my goal, and there are 10 people alive on earth that have made any meaningful progress towards it.

They have a lot more free time to dedicate to it than I ever will, and the odds I could ever get close to them is probably non existent.

Even if I won the lottery tomorrow, and had explicit instructions on what I needed past the introductory stages (which I don't) Most likely even then I wouldn't have enough time remaining if I spent 12 hours a day every day for the rest of my life.

Still I refuse to give up, and will do my best.

Im not sure that example really explains it, after all, you can do your best to survive but the possibility of rescue is out of your control.

If you know that your goal is possible, that others have achieved it, and will keep trying then obviously there is a part of you that believes you can achieve it. The fact that you say you wont and way you detail your obstacles makes me think that you have set yourself up to not achieve it. You have already given yourself permission to fail.

It is possible I will succeed, but I would have better odds of winning the lottery twice, and being struck by lightning 10 times and surviving with no ill effects.

Out of the 100+ billion people to have ever been born, only a small handful have gotten close to my goal.

So yes it is possible, but highly improbable.

That won't stop me from trying though.

Technically possible but highly improbable.

It's possible Emma Watson might show up at my door drunk begging to spend the night in the next 5 minutes.

I am not banking on it though.

My infinite improbability drive is still on the fritz.

LOL.

But if your goal was for Emma Watson to turn up drunk at your house, could you find a way to make it happen, however improbable?
