Beyond medical uses, I don't know why anyone would. The trade-off for the "spiritual high" you get off of it isn't worth the sacrifice. And then there is the other logic my my friend has: "Why risk being high on the off chance someone really needs your help in that exact moment?"

Like any drug that alters perception and in some cases the recipients reality, there is no non-prescriptive place in British society for this illegal substance. Youngsters being as they are, pushing the boundaries and breaking rules is a part of growing and learning about life and societies rules. However, allowing Cannabis, skunk, in whatever form, to be taken at leisure and with the blessing of a countries law, would be a massive mistake. There are many arguements for legalising such drugs, with suggestions that it would de-criminalise the use and make it less of a taboo and so less interesting to younger people or just people in general. However medical facts tell us that the long term use of these so called 'recreational drugs' is very derogatory to our health, causing lethagy, and paranoia in the least with long term degradation to areas of the brain and sevear depression. We need people around us to be allert and active and not operating machinery and vehicles in states of impotent bafoonary. There is a even stronger arguement for the abuse of alchohol which is another thorne in the British society as we speak.

Marijuana is illegal and the Jedi believe in upholding just laws, as well as honoring ourselves. Respect yourself. There is no correlation between self respect and marijuana.

I believe that no Jedi would consume any mind altering substance of any kind. In fact to do so, for any reason, would go against the order very much.

I see no reason why the recreational use of drugs is against the Jedi teachings. You may not wish to do it and that is absolutely fine!
Caffeine is a drug, I'm sure everyone here takes that at some point during the day.
You may argue that it makes us 'impure' (whatever that means) or that it impairs cognitive ability (very often true) but how is that non-Jedi like.
There is more to Jediism than a self imposed ban on anything that effects your body in some way.
You can still be a Jedi and enjoy drugs.
There is something called moderation.

(This is an opinion and not an official stance of the order)
My own opinion is to respect local laws, as laws are different from place to place, there may be some that can legally use marijuana or other drugs in their area, As to the "jediness" of it... that is to the individuals own morals and path to decide, We are not here to judge... though I would recommend not becoming an addict or dependent of any drug... Prescribed or otherwise unless it is for a life threatening disorder or injury

A person under 18 (possibly even a bit older) is maturing and some substances can disrupt that development that cannot after one is finished maturing. If you're not an adult it's a bad and dangerous idea to use medications unless a doctor and your parents say it's OK. We now know that even aspirin can be dangerous for children.
Most of the worlds drug laws and the failed war on drugs are extremely evil and unjust. The law is the crime. Police being able to kick in your door and take you to jail for growing and using any plant or fungi is obscene and an intolerable violation of fundamental human rights. It is society gone insane.
A proper discussion on cannabis (also called marijuana) and other natural substances will be a vast undertaking. We'll do it though.

I'm ending this post here but I'm far from finished. I'll be posting an essay by Allen Watts as soon as I find it.
Abuse is not an argument against proper use.

Forgive the length of this post, this is a subject I've thought on for a long time...
I personally like smoking marijuana... I like acid as well.... It has been 15 years since I have done any illegal drugs...
At the right times...
... Not every day, morning, noon, and night...
And at the right age, I am over forty, it is definitely not for children, this is how it gets abused... Children, mental children, those who have not grown up, like the numbing feature, think its fun, or that life sucks, so it is better to be numb.. Whatever the reason, it is not the right one... I did not do drugs except for alcohol and tobacco, till I was 18...
Meditation is the extreme concentration, and consideration of an issue, or situation...
And smoking a little herb can help to focus a person's attention.... And marijuana does help with it... for me... it allows me to concentrate on what I wish to concentrate on....
So it is illegal, so what? So is speeding, jay-walking, downloading movies and mp3's, underage drinking, littering, certain sexual practices (depending in location), fireworks in some areas, changing lanes without signaling, talking/texting while driving....
I can go on... There are still laws, in effect, that are old and outdated, but have never bothered to be removed, any search engine will bring you back more "silly" legal laws than you would care to read....
In the USA, there is a term called "the label is the law", those warning on products are the law... It is against the law to use those products in a manner inconsistent with the label... Deodorant, bug spray, cleaning products, you name it...
I'm not stupid, OK, mostly not stupid... Don't drink bug spray, keep antifreeze out of my eyes, OK, got it...
Moderation, this is the point... We (humans), all want more, faster, better, longer, cooler, smarter...whatever's...
Use your intelligence, I smoked for years... Every once in a while, I had to tell my friends that I was taking a sabbatical on it... Gotta clear up my melon (slang for my head...
)...
The original intent of all of these mind altering substances was not to overindulge, but at special ceremonies and rituals....
For a reason... And not some T.G.I.F. reason either....
Never done anything "wrong"? Drugs. Speeding, whatever, good for you...
I wish I could say that... Nah, no I don't...
I lived a life, had adventures... I missed all sorts of adventures as well...
I don't smoke currently, I get drug tested at my job, and my wife is against it... It's not worth the hassle...
If/when it becomes legalized, I will check my situation, maybe I will, maybe I won't, start smoking again... Who knows... I quit smoking and drinking, for now...
Right now, I think I'm right where I ought to be...

@ Angelus- Who determines what laws are just?
@ Arkda - Prescription drugs are causing far more issues than any amount of illegal drugs, in my opinion... Look @ the law suits and warning labels...
We are taking, non-natural chemicals and placing them in our bodies to hopefully improve them... Whereas marijuana grows natural, needs no more special treatment than any other grow crop, and is ready for consumption with no processing...
@ Lad - No, it doesn't go against the Order... Our founding father, Br. John, had said so in the second response... Now two other senior members, and others, have agreed...
@ Br. John - the more Watts I hear, the more it all makes sense... lol... :woohoo:
