I love when someone find some happiness pattern or something healthy to do... But I really fascinate when someone realize that he/she can teach him/herself something from zero... Years ago i teached music in my free time to many people in a Buddhist cultural temple for free, the first step was start doing music in a simple and almost minimalist way, their faces were priceless, they found THEY CAN PLAY MUSIC and that had a valuable effect on their self-esteem, with the years, some surpassed my level and became the next generation of teachers there, so happy to remember that kind of harmony resonance

Thanks for calling to meaningful memories

Something that V-Tog and I have talked about on multiple occasions...

Have you ever noticed that we always seem to know the difference between sad music and happy music? Even little kids who know nothing about music can always identify when a piece of music sounds sad or happy. Why is that? Have you ever thought about what that could say about the nature of music as being one of the most (if not The most) naturally intuitive language that exists? How is it that music can move us the way it does without any kind of social conditioning to dictate to us what is what?

Notes, frequency, vibrations, energy...

Very fascinating...

Music has, is and will always be my passion. A few years ago I came off the road for good. It is an impossible way of life, no matter how much I loved what I did. It cost me a marriage and nearly a closeness with my daughter. For about the first eleven years of her life I hardly saw her.

Now, I have fallen in love with the nature I have surrounding me, and teaching and playing my guitar.

Yesterday morning I walked out on my porch and saw eight deer grazing down over a hill. There were around four very young ones and they were chasing each other instead of eating. I guess momma got pissed and started doing her own chasing and she was making a sound like a pig grunting. I’d never heard that before.

Teaching guitar is really gratifying. Once we get past the very basics of the instrument I teach them a couple of chords and tell them to go home and write me a tune. This idea I stole from Tom Morello. So far it has worked well. This summer I had four students, and three of them have stayed on.

I'd have to say flying, but I don't do it due to $$$ among other things.... so it instead feeds my spiritual path ie dakini aka sky dancer, or whatever the male version is;
The masculine form of the word is ḍāka, which is usually translated into Tibetan as pawo "hero".
We're familiar with the concept of the 'hero' but perhaps not flexible on its context... at least we can use Campbell's idea of the hero's journey as one mechanism to orientate comparisons I guess.

Just don't call me Old Daka

So they all sort of blend together into my Jedi path, as it would make a lot of sense if ones 'love' or passions were integral to it!

I'm a communications enthusiast and I work in commercial radio, specifically for CBS Radio in Southern California. The history and technology of radio is fascinating. Most people know about AM (Amplitude Modulation) and FM (Frequency Modulation) radio, but aren't aware of the difference.

AM radio signals vary the amplitude, or height, of a radio wave coming from the transmitter. These waves travel very far and very high in the atmosphere, but they don't penetrate well. This is why AM signals go out when you go under bridges in your car. It is also why some AM signals can be heard across huge distances, but don't sound that great for music. These waves also bounce off of clouds, so AM radio actually works better on cloudy days. Because they travel so high, antennas can be located anywhere, even below sea level.

FM radio signals vary the frequency, or space between peaks, of a radio wave coming from the transmitter. These waves don't travel as far, but they penetrate buildings and concrete much better than AM. FM also allows for a clean separation of channels allowing music to be broadcast in stereo. These waves also require more electrical power and produce higher radiation than AM. In the past, FM antennas would actually glow at night. Now they are regulated, but some still produce 90,000 watts of power, so don't go near them or you're likely to get fried. Since FM is a more directional and concentrated signal, you'll see FM transmitters on extremely high antenna towers or placed on top of mountains. The higher, the better coverage. Nowadays there is also High Definition radio signals that can be embedded into FM signals that allow one frequency to broadcast multiple channels if you have the correct equipment to receive it.

There is also satellite radio, which is similar to AM in it's wide coverage area, but also has poor penetration. Your antenna has to be within a direct line of site of the satellite or it doesn't work.

I could go on and on, but I'm sure I've bored people enough by now :)

That's very interesting actually!

How did you get into radio? Do you need a degree? Or do they hire people based on talent/skills? Or what?

I ask because I've always thought I might do well on the radio. Haha.

I absolutely love teaching and performing. Let me go into detail.

I teach drums and percussion in schools and privately at student's home. Of course, I have some troublesome students but when I get to teach my more motivated (not advanced) students I am filled with joy. I'll give an example!

I recently starting teaching an older gentleman. I work as part of a small company (shameless plug) and we have around 12 tutors among us around Sydney and Byron Bay. This new student was with another student but went to my boss and asked for a tutor who might be able to help him feel the music. Without thinking, my boss asked me to take him on. So I did.

Since then, He and I have been working to create passionate and amazing music through our drum kits. We work mainly with jazz as it is a big passion for both of us but we have been able to bring out his musical center and it has been the most rewarding thing ever! Teaching students like him, which I am blessed to have many, motivates me beyond belief to influence their musical lives with joy and amazing drum songs ;)

I also love performing. And by this, I mean performing Drums on stage. I used to part of a high school band we actually were lucky enough to record our own EP! I loved playing in the band and performing for my HSC (End of high school tests for my music class). Since I graduated 2 years ago I have been a big part of 2 other HSC performances and have loved working on these big projects.
I recorded my most recent performance where my student and I performed an adaption of the song "popcorn". By adaptation i mean we changed it completely but loved the name.
Enjoy! (I hope)

Writing (mostly fiction, but nonfiction too). I love to write. My only problem is consistency, something I'm working on.

Writing fiction is hard. (Not that nonfiction is easy either...) If you want to write good fiction you have to invest part of your soul in it. Every time I write something I'm proud of I feel like I've put a part of my life into it. It takes investment. Before you can do all that though, you have to have a very firm grasp on the fundamentals. Style, voice, and other such embellishments come later. You need to know grammar, punctuation, syntax, formatting, spelling, etc. For someone attempting to write professionally, these things should be second nature. That means practice and lots of it. Write until you run out of things to say. Then, any mistakes you made, edit them. Edit the crap out of what you write. If you're not sure whether something is correct or not Google it or ask someone who knows grammar and spelling and all those basics to look over your writing.

Once you have the basics you can focus on things like plot, subplot, character, story structure. Then practice all that. Make sure you're still using those fundamentals I mentioned above, but by now they should be pretty automatic and you can pay attention to the things that make your writing a readable work of fiction.

Once you've practiced until THOSE things are essentially automatic you can worry about "finding your voice." Voice is basically just a fancy word for style. Everyone develops a style over time. It should come organically over time. The more you write the more you develop your "voice."

After each story/manuscript is finished EDIT. Rewrite. Polish that **** until it shines.

Then, maybe, you'll be ready to start thinking about publishing.

It's work. It's toil. It's blood-sweat-and-tears. But I love it.

wow I have so many valuable lessons, but I will share them in time, for some reason I was thinking of web development (not because I taught it in college right?) - which is one of the most practical (non-spiritual) skills I could possible start you on, and far easier than you likely imagine - and something I have used to survive for over two decades now.

Hyper Text Markup Language is the syntax of the internet, it is used to separate words (which computers cant understand how they relate, without ai) as structural ideas for websites...
perhaps one of the simplest demonstrations I can give would be to <strong>bold</strong> text

The words "strong" would not appear, when loaded by a web browser, instead the text "bold" would become darker. the words "strong" are in what we call, "tags" the first being an open tag and the latter being a close. not all tags require a close, those which affect a point rather than a collection, such as to load an image require no close. An example image tag would be <img src="some_image_file_here"> the "img" is the name of the tag, or "feature" to be applied. "src" is what programmers would call a variable, or something which holds a value, can change and the (often shortened) name denotes what it holds, the source file location. Usually in HTML it's referred to as a parameter or attribute, though they are all synonymous.

ok, so you understand the basics of HTML there is yet an astounding number of tags to learn, but the simple fact is most can be don merely through another language, used to customize the appearance of HTML called Cascading Style Sheets. So now I'll tell you you can look up any tag on w3schools.com - and many other sites, and you can teach yourself the rest to jimi hendrix proficiency. While HTML is now to syntactically structure information, CSS is how to style it visually - you can change positions, colors, sizes, almost anything.

The most simple example I can show you is mixed within HTML, for alone CSS is useless. While there are many ways to include CSS into HTML and the rules are not absolute, it is easiest to show you by including it within the "style" attribute of a tag (any tag, which is how you can make any tag any other, for the difference is merely the browsers pre-set CSS) so I will use the "div" tag, which is use horribly frequently by low quality site makers - div is short for division, so it is basically a blank tag with no CSS. you can make a site entirely out of divs within divs within divs, and only CSS to style it - but it is horribly messy. the "style" attribute is reserved specifically for CSS, the bond is that strong between them.
<div style="color:red;background-color:black;">
This text will be red on black
</div>
so I can use this example to teach you much of what you need to know about CSS except, like HTML, the various commands, which even experts reference frequently. You'll no doubt notice on your own that there is no =, equal in css has a very specific meaning and not the normal one, consider it a highly specialized advanced feature for now. in CSS the symbol which replaces almost every other languages = is the colon - so the "color" will be red and the "background-color" will be black. (notice there is not foreground-color or text-color) Also notice that it is entirely lower case - this is a rarely broken rule. in HTML it is merely customary to make it lowercase and in days of old (I still do occasionally) it was more preferred to be written in uppercase to distinguish it. HTML is a very forgiving language, CSS is not. I will also point out the semi-colons, the bane of every programmer - many hours are spent searching for missing semi-colons. In CSS and most every other language, they are separators, they separate instructions, in CSS instructions are referred to as "rules" and have 3 parts, the selector, which in the example is "div" - and specifically only that one. then there is the property, or attribute which is the detail you want to change - the variable, and the third part, between the colon and semi-colon is the value.

I kid you not, work on the skills and which HTML and CSS do what and you can build a nearly unlimited source of income for a mere $20 a month. (with a lot of work)

Next to learn is programming, I would recommend javascript first primarily because it interacts well with HTML and CSS - the holly trinity of the web. Javascript is publicly visible, so useless for security (almost) so there are other languages to learn as you progress... those these 3 cannot be directly hacked (the server software however can). my theory is if you start you will develop a crave for more and never stop learning... it is merely countless simple things.

I will leave you with one other little golden nugget which is that even your laptop could be a web server, this is a multi-step lesson which quickly grows in complexity, don't fI won't leave you the whole thing but can help you if you like.
1) create a new text document - right click anywhere on your desktop, in windows explorer, in your music folder, whatever, and go to new and then new text document - this is how to create simple memo.
2) inside the document type <center>Hello, world</center>
3) save the document as anything.html - you will need to select the type *.* instead of text document *.txt bellow the file name, or it will save as anything.html.txt instead of correctly.
4) close out of note pad and open the file using chrome - right click the icon, go to open in whatever browser, doesn't have to be chrome
5) TADA your first website! - but it's not public :(
A web server is merely a computer which is setup to share such files over an address like google.com. various problems may lie in your path - first you are likely behind a router, which must be setup to allow the connection. Secondly you would need to run software which listens for and then provides files to that connection (far easier than it sounds) lastly your numerical address, which is what you would map a "domain name" (about $25 a year) such as google.com to, likely changes daily, monthly or yearly unless you pay a small fee for otherwise. your internet service provider also likely doesn't want you running a server, there are risks of hosting viruses if you are not diligent.
a simple solution is to rent a server, which is often as low as $10 a month, with simple to use software you can send your files there easily.
these low low costs, and a tonne of dedication could build you an empire - if you are better at sales than I :D

P.S. one more thing, right click any page (this one?) and go to "view source" - HTML and CSS! yes javascript to - every page you see is made with these three languages, and more hidden behind them on the server.... and yet another thing...notice how there is likely over a million lines? (yes I exadurate, I don't even dare look it gives me nightmares) That is why the site is slow - I could make this single page, without the chat in less than 100 with the chat maybe 500 - and they would be legible!!!
