I don't know of too many members of this community including myself who can be so generically described as the above. We're not so one dimensional like caricatures from a movie. Let's stop boxing people shall we...

No. If you want to follow the philosophy and/or religion of the Sith, then you are a Sith. Otherwise you are just a human with bad control over your emotions and your temper

Agreed. Not all people that are peaceful and tranquil are Jedi, not all people that lash out are Sith. They have their own philosophies one must make a consious decision to adhere to before one can call him/herself one or the other. A Jedi can lash out in anger. It is against the Jedi way, but it is their way to learn from mistakes and correct themselves. It does not make one "Grey", but moreso shows they are still human and are still learning.

I find both of these to be offensive and untrue assumptions.

Well, in the interest of inclusiveness and compassion...

We're all gray. Every one of us. Nobody can ever claim to be completely "light" or completely "dark" because the terms are subjective. What I call "light", others may see as evil. These are just labels. Sith and Jedi, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, Hindi, nudists, vegetarians... we're all just people. Judging someone based on rigid criteria from a book or movie or doctrine or dogma does not give an accurate depiction of who that person is moment to moment. It only serves to create a perception of who you think that person is, not who they truly are. It's all in your head.

I could post some deeply profound wisdom from Alan Watts here, but if you've read The Book, you already know what I would quote. Let's just lose the labels and remember that we're all a little bit of everything.

In order to find the flaws in my arguing, can you please elaborate on how my assumption isuntrue and offensive?

This is one of the main problems with adapting a religion based on Star Wars--in the fiction, Light and Dark are absolutes. In reality, they aren't.

I have many thoughts, some on Coffee.

Far too many on coffee actually, so another time perhaps.

Also someone said something about all colours mixing to grey, which irks me, but then I have not had my (second) coffee yet, so I may yet forgive them.

Where was I? Oh yes, I do hope our OP has a chance to come back expand on their intro. It'd be a shame is they were irritated by our banter and felt unwelcome.

Are they?

Dark, maybe - We never really see anything too altruistic from Maul or Sidious.

The rest, Jedi, Sith (and whatever the hell Count Dooku was, freelance?) all seem as wishy-washy and vague as something that would be a great example of wishywashy vagueness.

I watched The Postman the other day.

Now Bethlehem is good old fashioned evil.

(With Ford being our shining beacon of Light - BUT EVEN THEN - Guy lies about how well things are going to give his people hope...)

Fiction/Reality Reality/Fiction.

We write the dang stories, and if we can't conceive of what Pure Virtue is, then we've not got much chance coming up with a Hero that does.

um... sure.

What's interesting is that Jedi philosophy is faithful to the Jedi in SW canon. But if I talk about Sith philosophy from SW canon and how they use negative emotions to their advantage people get offended.

So I wont.

XD Freelance Sith? That really is the most apt description of Dooku that I've ever heard.

Also, subnote, is a Canadian Grey Jedi a Grehy Jedi?
