Supposing the new Prime Minister chooses not to invoke article 50, do you think EU leaders are going to say, sorry, but you have to? Seems rather unlikely... They want an end to the political uncertainty because uncertainty is economically damaging.

As for our voting system, it was democratic enough for us to be accepted into the EU in the first place. We also voted in favour of it with the 2011 Alternative Vote referendum.

Eu leaders already have said 'sorry but you have to'. Even merkel.

The problem is that it doesn't look like they can actually make us. Jeremy Hunt is talking about not invoking for ages! Saying its something that should be included in the 2020 manifesto?!! Even I think that ridiculous!

I agree that we should invoke it soon (but not to soon), but I only think that way because I'm worried that if we arse about for too long it will further damage our relationships with the rest of the EU nations.

So I messed up the formatting of that and unfortunately it won't let me edit it.

It should say:

With Farage's performance at the EU parliament this morning, I don't know if that relationship can get any worse than it is now.

Yeah, Farrage is an arse at best and a whole range of expletives at worst  . Though Junker was a bit harsh asking him why he was there, he is our elected MEP. And whilst I don't agree with the way he said it, I think he was right about a couple of things.

Oh god, now I'm agreeing with Farrage

Nick Barber, Tom Hickman and Jeff King: Pulling the Article 50 ‘Trigger’: Parliament’s Indispensable Role

TL;DR: Article 50 (withdrawing from the EU) can only be authorised by an act of parliament.

Warning: Spoiler!

Farage is that guy who on the rare occasion he actually turned up for work, chose to abuse his colleagues instead of representing the interests of his constituents. Tells me everything I need to know about the man.

"As a matter of constitutional law, Parliament is not bound to follow the results of the Brexit referendum when deliberating this legislation."

Hence why I think the EU could find itself searching for methods to boot the UK.
