Suicide

It has been said that I do not show empathy to the suffering and emotional distress that the person considering suicide is experiencing.

I agree. This is true. My empathy, sympathy and general caring about what they want was used up a long time ago. So I do sound harsh and uncaring towards the individual’s desire and reasons for suicide.

But I do care about them as a person. I would bend over backwards to help them get through anything they were going through. Not because I don’t want them to die and not because I fear death or think I will miss them… not because I know what will happen to everyone they leave behind and what I have seen it cause to many families and friends. It is because I care about them as a person and I hope they can get through whatever it is they are going through and learn to love life again.

I never said it wasn’t their choice. I argue it is the wrong choice. I can give countless reasons as to why, multiple examples as to how it affects others, the ones they love and love them; but they only seem to care about what they think they want or should be able to do. It is my opinion, but I believe that is one of the cruelest and selfish attitudes an individual can have.

We are not our own person, responsible only to ourselves and for ourselves. We are a community and touch everyone we meat daily. We are a family that cares for each other and whether anyone likes it or not, we have a responsibility to each other. We are not in this alone. Each person’s life has value whether any of you choose to accept that or not. And life is a gift, none of you can create it, it is special… and was not given to us to squander away.

These are my opinions. They are my beliefs. And no matter how pig headed, stubborn or shellfish anyone is, I still love you, care about you and want nothing more than for you to experience the love of life you deserve, even when it is missing from your life.
