This. In my opinion is not the fault of Adult Content however. Adult Content didn't make you feel or think that way. :) Your education in and about sex and your surrounding influences based on sexual behavior and mental triggers is from an entirely different outside source. Since I do not know you....I cannot say what those sources were. Poor education from parents? Behavior and influance from college buddies? Media? Or quite simply just your own natural instinct. In which case it dosn't matter how erotic and artistic...or otherwise it is....your own behavior will dictate how you use it. :) Thats on you, not the content.

A good example of this could be Alcohol or drugs :) It is not the Alcholes fault that people become alcoholics and abuse their intake of it. In the end, it is just a fermented concoction that can be used for good and even medical things. :)

In the end of things. No matter which way you argue it...It all goes back to Individualism and works right for you :)

I don't think it's inherently negative/problematic, but like all things in life it must be kept in balance.

I'm sure the time will come when my son starts to look at it (thankfully not for a decade or more), and when I find out he has I plan to have a conversation along the lines of what's real, what's "pantomime", and leave the door open for frank discussion, however awkward that might feel. I certainly won't make him feel wrong or abnormal for exploring sexuality. Sex is a natural and healthy part of life, and adult material is, to some extent, a normal, "educational" part of that... in moderation.

The more taboo you make something, the more alluring it becomes.

That's not true! We're also disembodied penises in hetero porn. I fully agree with you, I just chose women as the example because that's the one everybody harps on the most.

hmm I'll go read my post again but this is what I meant... Women are represented as women in both lesbian and hetero porn. But men only get to be men (not just a penis) in gay porn. male hetero porn actors are indeed just disembodied penises (and even referred to as such).

The really strange thing though is that it is now that women are more likely to watch porn that the romantic/roleplay side of porn has completely disappeared. Before there'd always be some kind of story that builds up to the sex, and the actors were more than a meat pole.

I'd agree stereotyping is also a bad attribute of consumer industries, and some people say they can suffer from shopping addiction's too perhaps from trying to appear relevant, modern or on-trend, but I think that is a more direct reward behaviour of acquisition and low self esteem perhaps. I think it must really become an addiction when it goes to a second order type of behaviour which could be explained by the brain's reward system, hence my post.

Any violence seems to be dehumanizing to me, I only chose the mainstream man on top of women scenario because it seems the most popular when I look around. As I think that violence is a behaviour which can be copied by anyone, it could have a deeper and broader impact on the viewing audience then individual actor characteristics which can otherwise be linked to deliberate casting to achieve some 'fashion' of effect, thus leading to stereotyping and that self judgement.

Just one more example of how un - creative society in general has become :(

Of course you also just have to know where to look and honor your interests. Myself I prefer novel Erotica like Kushiels Dart by Jacqueline Carey :) Which is my style of "Adult Content" If I find Adult Content that I am not comfortable with...I just delete/close it out.

My wife and I prefer the hardcore stuff. Not the really hard stuff that involves blood and whatnot though. And obviously amateurs do it best, except when it comes to the lighting, the video equipment and viewing angles unfortunately. Solution: forget about porn and go meet other libertines :P But I digress.

LoL  If you read Kushiels Dart, you would learn I am not at all far off on the whole 'hard core' likes. Which can be more difficult to find that is properly tasteful :-p That line of Adult Content, folks may be surprised to know is much more...Mmm...respectable? Than your average cheesy Porno flick. The participants in the hard core stuff are actually very willing and well treated actors vs the average cheesy flicks which treat their actors less desirably in order to whip out as many cheesy flicks as possible with less cost and strict contracts.

I looked at it on wiki and Kushiel's Dart looks "complicated" (lots of storyline and background info)... Don't forget men suffer from this "low head blood pressure" thing when in "adult" situations :P

The Kushiel series was fantastic as far as I got. I stopped reading after the first book about the boy growing up...darned if I can't remember his name...
