Has Texting KIlled Romance
Through passion I gain strength and knowledge
Through strength and knowledge I gain victory
Through victory I gain peace and harmony
Through peace and harmony my chains are broken
There is no death, there is the force and it shall free me

"What I mean is feminism has transformed the western world in a way that the western man's interests in the western woman are minor."
And that I would not marry a western woman. (because it's too big a risk imo, either way, that clearly is my opinion about what I want to do with my life)
I did not blame all western women. What I DO blame is feminism, and I know that many women are anti-feminists, and not all feminists are women. A famous anti-feminist is Margaret Thatcher, the only female prime minister the UK has ever seen. (And she is far more memorable than tony blair, brown, major, dave, and whoeverelse has been PM since WW2)
I argued in a private message earlier that feminism is in fact harmful to women's reputations. Maggy thatcher was elected as a representative in 1959. She became a cabinet minister in 1970. Became leader of the conservative party in 1975. Became prime minister in 1979, and remained in that position for 11 years. She hated feminism, calling it a poison (In 2011).
There is no doubt in my mind that she 100% deserved her reputation. She is not hated by the mining sector because she was a woman, she was not loved by (torry) politicians and voters because she was a woman. She didn't get there through affirmative action, because people felt sorry for her being a woman or anything like that. She deserved 100% of it.
I'm sure marie curie deserves 100% of her reputation too.
But now feminism has come. Can you honestly say that girls and women deserve everything they have? That they got their A-levels, their university degree, their job for the sole reason they were better at it than everyone else, and not because it was made easier for them, through government or other incentive? Can you say that women after a divorce get custody of their children because they are the more capable parent? that they earned the alimony they get?
A lot of people do not think so, and I suspect that's why those people do not feel romantic.
Convictions are more dangerous foes of truth than lies.

I believe anything can kill romance, but
obviously evolve, we do not ride a horse today, or have a house full illuminated with candles, or hand write letters with perfume, or things like that.
Romance exist, in so different ways, internet, text messages, cellphones, cars, nothing or anything can kill romance.
look for couples, and you can find romance. not always, not all couples are forever.

 How many discussions is it now that we've bashed western women and feminism (because they're one in the same *sarcasm*

Anyways, why is it always the "western woman's" fault. I mean come on...come on...
Oh, and I agree with the movie/story book thing. People don't know what romance is anymore because they don't know what love is anymore. And it's not lust, subservience, or any other dramatic act.

One, I can’t wait to read your paper Veltra. And good topic!
Two, Raikoutenshi and Kaos , right on! Your posts on the first page hit the problem right on the head.
Three, I agree with Brenna (Big surprise) media is distorting our view and expectation of reality as a whole. That said, I still like seeing a romantic comedies from time to time. One of my favorites, and I just watched it the other day… My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Awesome movie!
That was it… I didn’t really have anything important to say. hahahhahha :woohoo:

It is merely a tool to show the true nature of the person who uses it. Often people text things that they wouldn't normally say, and that is where the problem comes in. When you are desensitized to the situation due to the lack of nonverbal communications (body language, etc.) it can cause a problem. As with any tool it simply needs to be used the right way. Instead of replacing parts of the relationship with texting, you can merely add to the already existing relationship through texting. Imortant conversations should be had in person still and you should never refuse a phone call because you could text instead.
Whenever a new technology comes into being there will be those who find a way to misuse it. When a relationship really matters to you, texting won't ruin your romance, it will simply offer more frequent communication.

Veltra wrote: I actually disagree with the fact that is shows the persons true nature. Yes people will say what they normally wouldn't say in person because they end up being a different person through texting a person that they really thought would be better for the opposite person. I have done this before and hate who i was Because it ruined what a person thought of me.
You've proven my point right there without realizing it. Acting like someone you aren't through texting to try to be more appealing to the person you are texting reveals something about your personality, it shows a lack of self confidence and the willingness to deceive to get what you want. The truth is always a better way to go and using texting as a means to act differently than you usually would without being "caught" will never end well. Relationships will have much more meaning if you always act how you feel and that doesn't change no matter which mode of communication you are using.
May the Force be with you,
Rai
