Alpha male syndrome. was created by
Hi guy's, after work last night i was invited to a small party at a friend of a friends house, I was pretty tired and sore after a hard day, we had been removing troublesome thorn bushes from a country lane, i had on two pairs of gloves but those thorns sure got through lol! I wasn't really feeling it but allowed myself to get talked into it as i feel i should try to interact with my colleagues a little more.
Now i don't know if it was my face or my size ( i'm 5'11, 14.5 stone, work outdoors and i am usually found head to toe in some sort of animal defecation lol!) But not long after i had arrived (i had done my usual check of the area, distinguishing familiar faces from non familiar faces) A guy approached me and my friend and was asking my friend who i was, where i was from , how long we had known each other, all the while looking me up and down like i was some potential lunatic waiting for the moment to unleash the crazy.
As the night went on and they all started to drink a little more, this guy decided to start asking really personal questions, audible for the rest of the party. "you smell like shit, don't you wash?" "is that what you where for a party?" I just smiled and played the ole too dumb to give a crap routine.
Every time i would attempt to converse with somebody he would appear and say something belittling about me to whoever i was talking to. I really started to get wound up, and started to play with the idea of offering this nice chap outside for a little fisty cuffs. he was about 6'2, probably a little younger than me and in all honesty a mean looking so and so.
I decided to just leave and go home, this was probably the wisest option for me, but i really feel i should of just slotted him there and then.
Would this make me as bad? or would it have been the coolest put down ever? I think i was right in just leaving, but you know how it is. Have you guys ever experienced the Alpha male syndrome? and how do you think is the best way to deal with such a person??

In truth, Sundex, I wouldn't even call this a case of an Alpha male showing off ; more like you just ran up against a prat with wee wee-wee syndrome who needed to either clobber someone or get clobbered -- yet, you know, at that level of civility, it would have been the same bird's feather in the cap had he just 'got in a good fight'.

The best thing to do if one of those beasties is taking the piss out of you is just to sluff it off as you would any noisy dog. On the other hand, if you see one on the back of someone who can't defend themself, knock the stuffings out of him.

I am an Alpha...

I have no trouble bowing to another Alpha if on their turf, I am a guest...

You did the right thing...

Some Alphas get there by bullying others, some are placed there by those around us...

It wasn't your territory, what would you have won? Land, a partner?

Sounds like you made a good decision....

I'm alpha (or at least, was). Men who are concerned about what you wear or smell like are not alpha. I'd call that gay-leaning douchebags.

I have alpha tendencies, but what you described is jusrt a drunk douchebag trying to pic k a fight. A real alpha contest is usually somethinglike best marksmen, most consecutive pushups, fastest run. A constant competition for dominance. This can be evidenced by the worlds biggest collection of aalpha males, the US navy SEALs. They generally don't go around beatuin veach othners asses. There is no need. Its more fun to beat everyone elses asses.

But even there, there are clear leaders, top dogs etc. Generally notched by kill coun.t. the clown you described didn't have any, almost 100% certain.

Full disclosure: I'm not a SEAL, tho I do admire them, obviously. +3 forgot to mention also that alpha/bravo/charlie. Rankins like that are only applicable within ones own dogpack. All other dogs, at least males, are classified as enemies. For this reason alone, this guy was not acting alpha, just acting like a douche.

He wouldst prolly been considered Alpha in his territory....

We all do it, especially in "our" territory...

The contests you describe, are contests of this caliber...

But in the day-to-day living, they change, but are no less important...

Yes, alpha by his pack . Not by you, or sundex. Just a douche. Alpha implies some sort of respect where none exists due o his behavior.

the human alpha doesn't do communal reinforcement. he doesn't need to do what others do to feel good about themselves. (like differentiate between themselves and "freaks", etc)
