Jediism & Martial Arts-practical application?

I think that Martial Arts and Jediism go very well together. There is much wisdom gained from the practice, and aspects of being healthy and fit. I personally feel there is an art and poetry to it.
I consider myself a pacifist and \"in touch with my inner Hippie\"
In a perfect world, there would be no such need for physical aggression.
But we do not live in a perfect world...
Sometimes, in real life, there will be times when a Jedi will have to partake in \"Aggressive Negotiations\" as Anakin put it.
Being peacful to me is very important. I personally have never been physically aggressive towards anyone.
However, I have been lucky enough where I was never put in a situation where I needed to. A lot of people are not so lucky.
No one is doing anyone a favor if they are letting themselves or others be abused.
As Jedi, we have to take care of ourselves, and each other, and our fellow man... that may mean preventing someone from getting seriously hurt or injured by using force yourself.
I personally do not see anything wrong with that.
As a \"Hippy Chick\" and pacifist, I do my best to work toward a world without violence and war and people hurting each other.
Ideally no one would never have to lay a hand on anyone.
But to say \"never use physical force\" the way the world is right now, would not only be impractical, it would be downright ridiculous and downright irresponsible.
And no matter how strong my convictions and ideals may be, to say it all has to be one way or the other is just not how I work... I don't see the world as black or white, but in shades of gray. To me, there are very few absolutes in this world.
So, to me... to know martial arts would be a good thing. It teaches discipline and focus and responsibility. It gives strength and healthiness. It gives people a way to defend themselves in times when they need to. It sounds good to me.
Just my humble opinion.

The art of peace begins with you. Work on yourself and your appointed task in the aft of peace. Everyone has a spirit that can be refined, a body that can be trained in some manner, a suitable path to follow. You are here for no other purpose than to realize your inner divinity and manifest your innate enlightenment. Foster peace in your own life and then apply the art to all that you encounter.

The art of peace is medicine for a sick world. There is evil and disorder in the world because people have forgotten that all things emanate from one source. Return to that source and leave behind all self-centered thoughts, petty desires, and anger. Those who are possessed by nothing possess everything.

Those who practice the art of peace must protect the domain of mother nature, the divine reflction of creation, and keep it lovely and fresh. Warriorship gives birth to natural beauty. The subtle techniques of a warrior arise as naturally as the appearance of spring, summer autumm, and winter, Warriorship is none other than the vitality that sustains all life.

All life is a manifestation of the spirit, the manifestation of love. And the art of peace is the purest form of that principle. a warrior is charged with bringing a halt to all contention and strife. Universal love functions in many forms; each manifestion should be allowed free expresion. the art of peace is true democracy.

The art of peace dose not realy on weapons or brute force to succeed; insted we put ourselves in tune with the universe, maintain pece in our own realms, nurture life, and prevent death and destruction. The true meaning of the term samurai is one who serves and adheres to the power of love.

Even though our path is completyely different from the warrior arts of the past, it is not necessary to adandon totally the old ways. Absorb venerable traditions into this new art by clothing them with fresh garments, and build on the classic styles to create better forms.

Mouse I agree most miss the point that though you train physially to defend your self ultimatlly the goal is to grow to a point where you do not need to use your skills ie verbal judo good book buy the way police use it and it offers good advice to all martial artists as many schools and events like UFC forget the ultimate goal, inner harmony and a true understanding of ones self. The demons we fight are those with in. This is not to say we do not need to forget the real world and if you look at San Soo you will find we take the world quite seriously and will do what it takes to defend ourselves and those in need in a world of wolfs I train watch dogs it would be foolish to think otherwise and for those who train in any style I would say as far as jediism or life goes they can only enhance you as a human which then allows you to help and enhance others. Just a thought.

Another core concept of Jediism is that a fight is the last resort

i hate using starwars lines but as Yoda (translates to warrior as it happens)

'... Great Warrior ! Wars Not Make One Great'

The idea of martial arts and jediism is to have the ability to defend oneself and others if all else fails

Not to 'shoot first ask questions later' mentality

This point could raise questions about some martial arts and the suitability of them to jediism, but in my view, the human is the weapon, anything else is a tool.

A gun on the table wont kill on its own, it needs a hand to fire it, like wise, a martial art itself is not 'dangerous' the person 'using it' maybe.

Hope this is understood as its meant

It is true that as Jedi that we use our mind first and resort to physical action last, it is the same truth that holds in martial arts.
Martial arts is a way to grow inside as well as out side the body, while it strengthens you in quick situations it can dull you to more reasonable actions.
Time tested many masters of the Martial arts teach us patience with our mind and body to master that takes time and if your fate has it you will never have to use such force to defend your self.

to be a jedi knight you must prtect the inocent so if someone is getting beat down what get beat down with them. no only use defence that applies to the situation.
