Your TOTJO needs you!
After my time here (although not as long as some) I've seen and read a tedious amount of Physical Temple threads...needless to say it's jumping the gun a little...if we could afford one...we would have one...but right now all we need is the website...however if people are really keen to take that next step...not a leap towards having a physical temple we will need to be in two positions.
1. Awareness
First thing we need to do is have TOTJO be more well know...yes we have a decent user base and we are the largest online community (as far as I'm aware...subject to change) however we need a lot more attention...without a body we can not move.
2. Money
Ever tried to buy food without money? Doesn't exactly work does it? Without money...we can't even contemplate building a temple...hopes and dreams don't put the metaphorical food on the table...
The Solution!
First thing's first we need to raise awareness...this can be done by doing things such as going leafleting...myself and senior knight Akkarin attempted this on 19/01/2013...not a huge success due to the weather...but we will be re-doing this later in the year...you can also just do more by telling people who are like minded about the site...that they don't have to become a member but instead can join in on the discussions...so basically the solution is SPREAD THE WORD.
I haven't mentioned money yet...that's what I'm now about to talk about...fund raising for TOTJO! Go for a sponsored run...walk around your town collecting money in a bucket and hand them a leaflet...do what you can do for your TOTJO. Take pictures of you doing the event...put them on Facebook...Try and check the TOTJO Facebook page and see if there's anyone posted on there asking for information.
Your Ideas
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post ideas for fund raising for TOTJO...all ideas are welcome and will be taken into account.
Remember this is the first step towards an actual temple...awareness and money are required...without both we can't actually take the first step.
Note: It will be down to you to arrange anything...collect money...if you are going leafleting make sure you check with your countries laws about doing it in certain areas first...make sure you always abide by the law and behave appropriately.

First, I don't know if I haven't been making this point clear enough, but planning doesn't cost money. At least it doesn't need to. So what is wrong with getting every thing else in order to the point when all that's left is the funding? Does this make sense to everybody? Like any business, you have to have a nearly compete business plan put together before even beginning to ask for investors. If we need a list, I'm sure I can go grab something off of wikipedia about business plans.
Second, I personally do not see us needing to recruit more people to the Jedi path in order to do this. A hand full of people have the ability to do all that's necessary (assuming they put the effort into it). Also, I've always felt that Jedi specifically, are called to be Jedi because of their own internal motives. Not because they were talked into it. The Jedi path is not for everyone. Parts of it may be for sure, and that's why a lot of my ideas open up our diverse training curriculum to those that are interested, even if to just one aspect. However, through their experience with us and observing us, they might be called to our path completely. Assuming we continue striving to embody what it means to us to be real life Jedi.
Hopes and dreams will put food on the table if you follow them. (unless you left that part out of your plan)
So in short, I respectfully completely disagree with the statement…
Remember this is the first step towards an actual temple...awareness and money are required...without both we can't actually take the first step.
So Metsu Desal, let me ask you: What skills or interests do you possess that you can contribute to the development of a physical temple of some sort? Aside from money. I'm sure there if something, if not many. Everything helps.
Peace,
Matt
P.S. Cute Akkarin

That's not what this thread is for. If Metsu wants to offer skills to help with a physical temple, that belongs in the physical temple thread.Jabi Musah wrote: So Metsu Desal, let me ask you: What skills or interests do you possess that you can contribute to the development of a physical temple of some sort? As you can see, Metsu (and Akkarin) went and stood out in the cold in Cambridge to give out leaflets about TOTJO. Leafleting is a thankless job...people generally ignore you, or actually divert from their path in order to avoid you, and if you do manage to give them a leaflet, you often see them stuffing it in the nearest bin.
And in case anyone isn't aware, part of their aim in doing this is to hopefully set up a 'physical' chapter in Cambridge.
I'd say that's contributing plenty

“The more the farmer increases the scale of his operation, the more his body and spirit are dissipated and the further he falls away from a spiritually satisfying life. A life of small-scale farming may appear to be primitive, but in living such a life, it becomes possible to contemplate the Great Way.”

There is no harm in planning for the future so long as we don’t miss the now.

There have been countless threads stating we should have a physical temple...every so often someone new comes by and states that we should have one...it's all fine and dandy planning...however I can plan how I'd spend the lottery money...but if I don't do the work to get it...i.e. buy a lottery ticket then it's POINTLESS effort and living in the FUTURE with NO BASIS thus a MUCH better idea on planning how to BUY the lottery ticket.
Now let me make this clear.
I am not saying we shouldn't plan...what I'm saying is the plans are USELESS WITHOUT the actual foundations for them.
So if you wish to DISCUSS the idea of a physical temple...then DISCUSS the idea...but HERE is for DISCUSSING how to raise money and TOTJO's AWARENESS.
Have a great day!

Metsu
