I count me to the dying species who has no account on facebook. Every time people ask me why I am not there, I say: I have a number of instant massager, a phone and an e-mail address. Why should I do this?
If they want some of my dates, they should research them with effort, like google did
I don't think that not having an fb account is a sign of suspicious behavior. It is more a sign of 'first think, then act'. Of course this is no offence to anyone here. I'm sure you had you reasons but for me there are at least as much reasons for it then against it.

i wouldnt say psychopathic, no. just a form of isolation. that is where most of the internet connected world hangs out, reads news, posts messages, and the like. you miss a lot of what is going on in the world of your friends without it. im sure thoreau would approve of your not having an account.

Maybe friends out of state/city/country, but for the friends that you actually hang out with facebook is almost useless. If you don't know what's going on in your "friends" life without it then are you really friends?

What better way for your government to keep tract of you as to have a Facebook account on an internet system they control. Of course "they" are going to say it is bad not to have a Facebook account. How many jobs have been lost because someone has read a Facebook posting?
Although it is tough not to be tracked these days, don't give someone any more to use against you. Close your Facebook accounts!
Beware of government sponsored PhD's telling you what is right and wrong, good or bad!

I'm not so sure you have to close them, but I agree it is a way for government and marketers to keep track of our habits. Knowledge is power and we mostly give away all our information freely and easily.

I just know in the future there will be online systems which will go through 'all' internet data in a few moments and put together a complete profile on your identity by using algorithms to spot patterns of speech etc to pinpoint all your online activity irregardless of firewalls, proxies, relays, fake identities etc.... so great grandchildren will know exactly what great grandpa got up to online

Facebook will help that but at least we are responsible for what we put online most of the time. The thing I do not like is when other people post bad pictures of me they've taken. Overall though, since people love being stickybeaks into other people's lives I do not mind it, but some people ruin the fun by posting inane updates about every meal or even toiletry habits!! Personal security is always a good thing to keep in mind such as not posting when your leaving the house, or pictures of valuables you might own, unless you've got the privacy settings really nailed down to trusted people. I also would not mention birth date's or place of work on facebook because its making identity theft too easy but having everything in one spot, but those things seem to be par for the course strangely enough.

'Miss Author, didn't you close your facebook account a while back?' Tom asked. Jack nodded, though, admittedly, she did still feel guilty about it every time she received an e-mail encouraging her to sign a petition and then post to facebook to garner more signatures, 'Since you used it to get attention on political and social issues, why'd you close it?'
"Because Mark Zuckerberg is a karking brixer." Was Jack's immediate reply, "And I'll be blasted before I support HIM."
'Ah.' The CMC noted, 'So, avoiding social networks to spite someone for political and personal grudges... Perfectly sane thing to do.'
Jack blinked and considered this.
"Oh god!" She mumbled, the realization occurring to her. Daline gleefully sidled up to her and rested a head on her shoulder.
'Aw, Miss Author! You really DO love me, afterall!'
