A Genocide Ignored

Sorry for the the language, but I'm not being a (deleted word). This is personal to me, and I've seen this firsthand. I never said she couldn't post in whatever manner she wanted, even if it's "I hope the ANC herds all the Boers into a gas chamber." I'm just requesting that she not put nonsense replies on a discussion about such a tragic and solemn subject.

Well that's alright then, because I certainly can't spot any nonsense replies!

How would you feel if I made an off-color joke about what my people did to yours at Glenmalure? I wouldn't because it wouldn't be appropriate, civil, or nice. I'm posting about my friends being genocide-ed, and she uses such a jovial tone. I'm not questioning her right to, I'm just saying I find it inappropriate.

And I totally respect that. iaving been in and out of those theaters for the past 6 years and seen my friends do the same, Its obvious that every individuals experience varies. I didn't mean to imply that because of my own indivuadual experience everyone else would feel the same way. I just saying from my individual experience I'd go back if I had to.

Well when/if the civil war breaks out in SA, I'll know what it's like. There's a lot of places and causes I'd like to fight for- Serbia, Northern Ireland- but I'll be glad that I did something to stop a genocide.

I'm not calling for that at all. I only asked that world leaders acknowledge the genocides/mass murders that have happened instead of making speeches at they will never let such a thing happen again.

You forget that, believe it or not, genocides can be obscured, often very well. For instance, they're still passing off the Irish Holocaust as the "potato famine...."

and yes, that is a good ex. think of stalin killing untold hundreds of thousands/millions of his own people in the name of 'progess'. or goerings quote at his war crimes trial after ww2:
'“Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”'
this same subterfuge would work for genocide. 'oh no, the (fill in the blank) are attacking us or our way of life! we must exterminate them all to be safe, and if you speak against us, you are one of THEM!' or something like that.

We all know about the Holocaust. Most people have a vague idea as to what the Armenian Genocide was. Many know about what Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge did in Cambodia. History majors like me know of the several genocides (or rather, the one really long attempted genocide) of the Irish by the English, who in 1707 conquered Scotland and used their subsequently increased power to to it more. I've watched the holocaust documentaries. Hell, I've been to Dachau. In the post-war years, the West has made racism such a massive anathema that you can end one's career by accusing them of it, all in the name of making sure another Holocaust never happens. I exercise my 2nd Amendment rights out the @$$ (self-censoring for Jestor) to prevent such things from happening here. We all swear, had we been there, we would have spoke out, would have at least tried to intervene, even if it meant death, and didn't change anything. Well here's your modern-day Holocaust, and scarce few people are doing anything. I'm not necessarily asking for military intervention. I myself, as I said, have volunteered to fight should civil war break out, but I'm not even asking that of anyone. I'm just asking that you make a fuss over it, put up flyers. I am sure many of you have done as much over other causes, of far less severity and importance. I know I have.
We know we live in a screwed up world when a teenager with a criminal history gets shot by a respectable man in self-defense, and it becomes national news as a racism scandal, but then when an actual race-based mass murder (AKA genocide) is happening in South Africa, nobody says anything.
