Loving the responses guys thanx :)
Especially the examples lol, underwear to Ke$ha music videos :P

I agree with you guys but I do believe that there is a way of providing it for free although it would be a dramatic change to the entire system and I'm pretty sure that it would be classified as communism
In a perfect world I can see it happening but unfortunatly we don't even though we try and make it that way. Like MadHatter stated

That is just the way of the world.

At the end of the day I think it's safe to say that we all used some form of cracked/priated software at some stage of our lives. Whether it be a cracked version of Windows or just a simple 1 minute song we downloaded from a not-so-european website and in some way we all wished that it could just be free :)

The current (extant?) variation to "free" is "someone else pays for it"

in the most situations, this means "paid for by advertisers"

TV is "Free", because the companies running the ads give the network $$$, which they can spend on shows.

Youtube, various games and light entertainment for your devices, search engines, almost every damn thing you're not paying for, is being paid for by advertisers, who are willing to subsidise your use of a product in return for access to you (and adding you to a database) they can use to market OTHER things to you, that maybe you WILL pay for, and thus, the circle of [strike]life[/strike] commercialisation is complete.

(This is why I don't wear clothes with brands on them. I've parted with my money for something to keep the rain and dust off - it better have MY name on it, or no name at all.

If you give me a shirt for free, I'll wear it with your brand on display. Until then, you can sod right off )

I don't think it is safe to say that at all :)

I also don't think the logic people are using when they steal things is "This should be free for everyone" just "this should be free for me"

Somewhere there is a story about cows and commons and grass and basically, I'll cut to the end - everyone starves to death.

(Edit: In case the Tragedy of the Commons seems not to apply to software, because it can't "run out" - Don't think of the Software as the Commons, think of the developer - who if over utilised and under-cared for will stop producing grass)

True but that someone at least makes money out of it and that's some form of making software free. I'm more than willing to sit with a few adds if it means I can get it for free to be honest.

I don't think it is safe to say that at all :)

Search your feelings, you know it be true  :cheer: ;)

It's not and that's why I won't reccomend using pirated software

Just on another note to pis a few more people off:
Every popular piece of software has a free "remake" of it, for example:
word -> Libre office, open office, wpa office
windows/mac -> linux/unix
ios/windows phone -> android
... (and that's all I could think of lol )

All those "free" variants are doing quite well so why not make the "original" pieces free of charge ?
(Can't wait to see these responses lol)

Because it's still not your "Right"

If I'm a bootmaker, and someone opens a shop next door to me and gives shoes away, well, that just means I have to find a new way to do business, it doesn't mean I have to give my shoes away for free too.

The fact that enough people hate microsoft (or apple) that they (the people) have made free alternatives is interesting, and it means Microsoft has had to find new business models, but it doesn't change their (microsoft's) rights to their own product and how they choose to distribute it.

(aside from asking for shit for free, this is just how competition works - Cabcharge/Taxis in Australia are currently reeling from the concept of Uber, which is threatening what was once basically a monopoly, retailers reeled from WalMart, and again now 30 years later, the whole lot are reeling again from Amazon. Pay TV was always crap, so who really cares that they're getting smashed by streaming services.

Anyway, to put it another way - I'd rather cough up $90 to play Skyrim WITHOUT a 15 second ad every time I fast travel or enter a new map ;) (especially because it'd probably be linked to the GPS in my car, so my PS8 will know I went to the sex shop that day and be advertising Sliquid in 120" of ultra high definition 5K 4D sound or something)

I'd rather stick glass tubes up my urethra than use Instagram at all, but as I understand it, it is basically funded by ads? (overt and subtle)

Oh, and for this free opinion, I think we should thank our sponsors.

Have I ... Yea .
Do I justifying it , nope.
I do buy records. Many new many ordered many used.
I do not buy new cd s any more ... Don't have to in my mind. So many places to get them. So easily bought n sold n down loaded and burned .
Song legality ... I'll sing any one I can remember any way any fashion I like , it's my guitar ! Lol but that industry has its laws and its ... Needs. It's a very BIG type of focus. Big names big money big this big that. My own personal stance is .... "You mean you want more ? .... "
Ps I'm an old DJ so I made a good chunk off off other people's songs I myself mixed ...they were never at those partys . Yea ... That's a real DJ in my opinion! Lol so that's my part .

I have quite mixed views on this, as in my family we very highly value honour, and if I /do/ pirate something if I do not have the money, I have always paid for it as soon as I've had the money, and in some cases even donated extra to the developer who made it if I can do so.

Pirated allows for unprofessional/trial use, but most want a genuine (unmodified) product with the support that comes with it. The same applies to FOSS, you can get it for free but most people want support and are willing to pay for it.

To be bluntly honest....The idea of withholding public related materials in this day and age is absurd. Things like TV shows for example. More and more people are switching from TV mediums to Internet. Most TV's these days hook directly to streaming sites like Youtube, Netflix, Hulu ect ect.... And because of this the industries are trapping the public for money more and more.

Look. I have no problems paying money for something I enjoy. I have a Netflix account and it provides 80% of my "TV" time. I have paid double amount of money for special packages of movies that I really love like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings....Avatar......These movies are worth it without question!

But places like Hulu who gives shows for you to watch for free with the addition of more and more adds....Even Add's Despite monthly payments.....It' ridiculous!

Or shows that play's on TV that your TV provider so conveniently doesn't add to your 500 useless channel list without paying a little extra more for the channels that actually matter.

Or my favorite - giving half of the series in a show and with holding the other half for years before updating (Classic Netflix)

So yea. There are some things that I will justify getting through various means. Just depends on the content and how jew~y people wish to treat my pocket.
