- http://www.tolerance.org/article/racism-and-white-privilege It wouldn't hurt to explore the entire site.
- http://www.wakemag.org/sections/voices/why-does-media-representation-matter See how POC have been silenced in the media
- https://blackwomenofbrazil.co/2015/02/27/real-talk-why-black-television-representation-matters/ More on representation. This is a site just for black Brazilian women. Minorities need a space in every sphere.
what do you think of the education she suggested?
Its an interesting read and i see why she suggested it to us , you have to read a little around the outbursts of sheer wroth though but i get where its coming from. The point is , if we agree or disagree , it does not take from the fact that we could have handled this better !

lets look at it respectfully and identify exactly what was wrong about what, and come up with specific alternatives for the future
anyone who sees a moment that was mishandled, could you please respectfully indicate what exactly you believe the mistake was so that maybe we can analyse and learn from them?
you can start with me/mine if you want

I would be open to this too. If anyone thinks I said anything inappropriate, please let me know. All I ask is that I'm judged according to the Temple Doctrine and not according to SJW safe spaces or the Salem witch trials. Not that those two are related, but I don't want to be judged by people's subjective emotions/opinions.

I'm not sure how I would have responded.
But to add to the discussion already in progress...
I think it would be wise for us all to keep in mind when people join the community they don't "speak our language" just yet. They may/may not have a diverse point of view (Just yet). They certainly don't word their thoughts in a way that is "Universal".
I'm learning that it is not my place to "correct" every idea that I may see as incorrect. When people arrive there is a good chance that they aren't prepard for the flux of information that they may receive. For some it can seem as an attack. Not sure what the member was looking for from the community. This may not have been the "answer they was seeking". But, it's kinda unfortunate that things didn't play out longer for them to find out. I missed the actual engagement. but, i'm glad i see the discussion. It will help me be aware of what my responses are.
And BTW...I am a "Non-White Jedi"

This is something that is hard to remember, and why we have the upper forums...
The beginning forums, the "Open Discussion forums" are a hard place for people to meet us.... I refer to it as "the wild west' on occasion, as we pretty much let anything go...
Because Guests speak, and they are not necessarily representative of the membership...
A few might be, but, the dont wanna join, and others, like Mindas, are square pegs in our predominately round-hole website... Mindas is a good guy, however, like some others, he doesnt always make a good first impression...... And like others, he and I bumped heads early on... :pinch:
In the past, I was almost the sole greeter, and it is easier to control things when it is just one person... We are experiencing 'growing pains, and possibly have just experienced the pain of losing a good member, maybe not, but, maybe...
Im not perfect, but, after the first couple of messages, I sent Mahogany a PM, saying that perhaps our messages were not coming across well, but, that we are good people...
From the sidelines, with no way to stop it, I could see the 'hole being dug' with which we would look bad in the eyes of someone who doesnt know us...
When in doubt, "stop"...
This is a general reminder, one I need as well sometimes...
On walk-about...

Jedi ain't Saints....

My words may be useless for direct purpose.. but even 'useless' involvement can stimulate the aura of a topic in positive ways!

However linking it to culture is most definitely racism. Most black people do not give a toss about obama, most black people havent seen the princess and the frog or know anything about its setting, because they're not american, their culture is completely different, their princesses, kings, presidents and dictators have been black since black began.
So no. They are not more likely to have something in common with you because they're black.
