Jedi Service and Preparedness

As Jedi it is my understanding that we better ourselves through training so that we might be better able to serve and aid others. This being the case how often are we mentally, physically, and spiritually able to do this? Are we equipped both with mental and psychical tools to render this service if the need arises or we feel called to?

My concept is a series of articles and maybe even videos that teach concepts of being trained and prepared to render aid if we feel the need. I am personally willing to dedicate the time to make some of this myself and was wondering if others are as well. I would also like to hear what people would wish to learn. We do have a Jedi first responder post that I have seen which is a great tool. But I would love to cover a wider branch of topics if the interest is there.

That is a great idea if i understand correctly. You want to make sort of first aid videos for Jedi for situations in real life that may occur ? Do i understand correctly ?

Well not just first aid. Possible ideas that come to mind: Self defense, proper small fire fighting tactics, preparing for natural or man made disasters, ways to be safe during civil unrest, how to cope with life emergencies. Ect etc.

I could use some of that advice! Especially the small fire fighting tactics. Nobody told me not to put out a grease fire with water. So when my bacon lit on fire, I almost burned down my apartment building. :S
Now I know better. But I'd greatly appreciate those kinds of materials being posted here in TOTJO, maybe also being featured in the library.

My Master Phortis has an excellent section on how to respond to emergencies. There is a lot of really great information contained in that thread. Read it, rinse, repeat. If you are not sure, read it again.

https://www.templeofthejediorder.org/forum/Health-physical-fitness-and-wellbeing/62020-jedi-first-responder-first-aid-for-the-jedi-bystander

Many of us have training in various backgrounds, Phortis is a Firefighter, he has a lot of really great experience in that field. Don't hesitate to ask him or many of our other members who have training.

Also, just a thought. A lot of times folks get all excited about doing all these really great things that are in the limelight, but what about simply taking some cookies to your neighbors house? Walking a dog at a shelter? Helping someone on your street change a tire? Those are all ways to be a Jedi too. Not that I'm discouraging any type of service but sometimes we get so caught up in chasing a title we forget that there is an elderly person next door who would just love to have some company even for five minutes. By getting to know that neighbor when the power gets shut off you are prepared to help them if you know they don't have a flashlight. etc.....

There are many ways to serve and be prepared.

If you visit this Forum, there are many topics that cover what you are looking for.

https://www.templeofthejediorder.org/forum/Health-physical-fitness-and-wellbeing

If there are specific threads you are looking for, please ask. I have been here for some time now and have seen many threads that cover a wide range of topics. Jake_Sato has a Lightsaber fighting thread.

If you have thought of it, it is probably already posted, but if you have a topic that is not found, please by all means get one started. Check the threads going back also and if you see one that has not been used in a while, bump it up and get it going again.

It is always great to see members getting involved in keeping us fit both mentally and physically.

Thanks for looking in on it.

J_Roz while I agree donating time to shelters or just lending a hand to a neighbor is a great thing those are not things that any of us would really need training for. Or to even really prepare for. Well I suppose emotional health. But this is to help give resources and information on skills we might need to hone or learn for times of need.

Phortis Nespin that thread is a great medical resource and I might link to it here or add my first aid videos here. The goal of this is to be a one stop shop for as wide array of skills as I can gather. Plus I did not seem some information I plan to cover such and basic firefighting for the home, firearms care and use, etc etc. The goal is to have a thread that covers a wide variety of topics. Though these topics will have the same goal, to better aid us in aiding others.

Everything is a lesson, anything can be used for training.

Ok you have me there. What my meaning was that no one needs training TO donate time. They can learn from it but most often unless it takes a specialized skill set you dont need training for it.

I'd love to see a dedicated index for this, complete with things like listings of emergency preparedness classes offered by official entities, major evacuation centers for regions (i.e. by State and County if you're in the US), as well as links and material already available on the Temple (but consolidated via links into a single thread).
