I think killing for religious reasons is stupid. All of the religions fighting have a god of peace. Don't make sense to me.

I do not think it is useful to equate predation and war directly. Insofar as we are the only species that makes war the way that we do, I am not entirely convinced that war is a natural behavior for the species. Why is it so quick and easy to learn and practice? I'm not certain. People do all kinds of weird stuff.
As animals, we are aggressive, defensive, vigilant, etc. War is something else.
There will always be a need for brave people. I don't imagine anyone is arguing that point. What we/they end up doing with their time is up for debate.
