If you put as much in your Journal I am sure people would honor that. Simply stating in a Journal entry - "If want to comment on anything I have said (regardless of your rank) please send me a PM on the subject. I would like my journal to simply be a place for me to explore my thoughts in my own manner. Thank you." I have no doubt all would respect the request.

I am opposite. I love feedback and discussion and exploration with others. I welcome the thoughts of others as long as it doesn't get unnecessarily repetitive. And as such I stated as much in my journal. Now rules are rules so the feedback I tend to get is in PM. But having that discussion, feedback, and interaction is such a vital part of training in a community. And one of the main reasons I came to this specific site.

Point being, Respecting a Journal comes in different forms. You find it respectful to adhere strictly to rules. I find it respectful when I am engaged regardless of the big red letter at the top of the forum. Thus a personal request would certainly solve all issues. Communication is key. :side:

It's on my journal by default. As such, I tend to expect people to heed that, and not litter comments all over my journal. Certain members have, as is their prerogative (given their rank and status, and the nature of their comments), but in general nobody should be talking in my journal but me. And it says so on the tin.

*shrugs* As I am sure is abundantly clear - to each their own. My view, as expressed, is different. Thus I feel having that individual disclaimer is vital. And gives the leadership and mentors a clear stance from which to operate from for each individual student/explorer. And since it is an individual preference would probably be best expressed that way, i.e. in one's own journal.

There is no official prohibition. I put that notice there years ago because there had been a couple of occasions when someone's journal had been completely overtaken by flaming.

There is no "rule" for that, we simply prefer and encourage that people who aren't teaching masters abstain from posting in there, however there is no prohibition and in fact some people, like Opie, may request that others share their thoughts in the journal.

I disagree Ren...

When I joined, it was stated, and an understood rule, in a place s few rules....

Where it was exactly stated, I don't remember...

@topic - The problem becomes when someone is ready for s training Master, the training master may have to wade through pages of crap, to get at gje meat of what the training journal is for...

The intent of the journal is just that... a journal. How many people take their journal to work, set it out open in the lunch room with a sign on it that says, "Plaese comment?"

If you want to have a discussion about something there are several places for it; the forum is full of them. Just start a topic and have at it.

And by 'crap', I mean conversation not necessarily geared toward the IP... A discussion on a lesson or a thought, that might further explain a point of view, I look at as less of an issue than some posts which are just chatter...:)

I went to look, to make sure I spoke correctly...

The IP stated in its first incarnation, posted March 2010....

It has been policy since I started...

The prohibition against commenting on someone else's Journal facilitates a feeling of safety in which the person may express ideas as they work through the IP without the anticipation that someone might post a comment. If someone wants, and so, invites comments of their Journal posts that is an exception. When I would like comment on my Journal posts I will copy my Journal entry and post it in some other Forum thread. Interestingly, aside from the occasional "Thank You", and with the exception of a few Jedi who consistently quote/comment, my posts are usually ignored.
