if someone actually built a temple dedicated to the teachings of jedism and the practices would you.

This is circumstantial for me. If the Temple was "in town", than yes. It would be great. If it were secluded but catered to retired Jedi seeking a peaceful end of days, than yes. That would be great. As I am now, no, not so much. We're not monks, we're Jedi. We don't shun the world in order to pursue spiritual enlightenment, we go out into the world to find it. More than that, we seek to share it.

we wouldnt be isolating ourselves, its obvious that we would have no choice but to stay in contact with current events.

Hmmmmm....

Hidden mountain forest Temple with internet. Can support itself using clean energy power sources, natural spring water, and gardening/hunting. Building maintenance done by the live ins as well as meditation, library time, physical arts training etc. Apprentice programs and retreats for those who do not live there. Official robes to show solidarity.

Regular travel too and from the Temple on "missions" or for personal reasons to "spread the word" etc...

That might work. Comes down to funding and orginization. And people willing to give up the lives they are responsible for now.

Absolutely. I'd definitely stop by and take a few lessons, maybe give a few talks. But, then I'd go back to my temple in Colorado. :D

Also communities founded on shared beliefs or principles often descend into either complete disillusionment, or (much) worse. I think as with most things in life, balance is better.

I would visit a temple but definitely wouldn't live there.

The idea of using this as a vacation rather than your reality. When i say community i mean a place where their are jobs for us people, their are people who live in the community who arent jedi and those who practice. Think of it as being a whole new world in where it is only people that feel the same as you do. thousands of us, yes their will be politics with the common but that doesnt mean anyone will be attacked, if anything they'll be ignored.

Remember im talking about a whole world "community" with stores, schools, lounges etc... but just focused on the Jedi community.

Isolating ourselves from the very people who we serve. Creating further divides in a world already so segregated.

When we see somethings as good,
others become bad.

Im of this opinion now...

I used to be all "hellz yeah!"...

I feel like a missionary, out in the violent wilderness of the world... IN the Congo, ...

And, I am surrounded by tribal people, who dont understand how to save themselves from themselves... lolol....

I enjoy totjo for the recharge I get, butuntil I am ready to retire, I wouldnt want to live secluded in a temple...

Just my thoughts... lol, as always...;)

On walk-about...

Sith ain't Evil...
Jedi ain't Saints....

Does it have to be a temple you live at?

I mean, its not a temple I know, but I go to the dojo 4 to 5 days a week and I dont live there.

Church is another example

Yoga schools.

How about a temple with "business hours"

Something where learning, meditation, contemplation is done, but not necessarily your place of residence?

Is it all or nothing?

You could still practice Jediism, even have different instructors do different parts of the day, and not have to live there.

Seems much more reasonable, especially to ask of others.

Well I'm the sort of person that would be willing to live there permanently (obviously I would have to actually agree with the way things are run :P ) but as it stands I wouldn't have much of a problem... That just happens to be the sort of thing that appeals to me to be honest...

I don't think any Jedi Temple would ever shut itself off so completely that we would never have contact with the outside world. Even the local Buddhist Temple (where one can live permanently) near me has people going out several days a week to teach classes etc...

Right, and for those that could or would live there, well, that would be good for the maintaining and such that would be required.

Its all conjecture, I was just pointing out options, not necessarily complete commitment to the temple 24/7

Its still workable(possibly moreso) an still serves the purpose intended.

Yes but...
It's important to remember that people are people so why should it be, you and I should get along so awfully?

These kinds of things work when you have solidarity, democracy, and a common vision of things that are, things that were, and things that have not yet come to pass.

Imagine moving to a Jedi temple and finding out everyone's a vegetarian so no meat... or everyone will hate you because you're a smoker... or because you have kids and kids take extra resources... etc. Or the worst of all: you're a meat-eating smoker with kids! Gasp!

Few are those who see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts.

Those sorts of things you would know about before hand though... I wouldn't just pack my bags and go live somewhere I had never been before, I would make an informed decision...

The easiest, and most realistic way, or starting a Jedi community would be to have people slowly move near each other over time. Move into a city flat, get a job there and then a group of you buy a house or rent a set of flats together in the same block etc...

For those that didn't want 24/7 dedication but wanted to have most of the experience that is a reasonable way to go about it, I know Chicago Jedi have that sort of idea in mind eventually

But these sorts of conversations are just hypothetical at the moment so it's fun to talk about them and consider the possibility but then once we've done that we should spend the rest of our time on our own learning and improving what we have now :)
