in regards to the teachings of jedism as well as other sciences and intellectual and practical pursuites and practices. Would you live in this temple.

imagine a small community that actually focuses on these studies and practices. wouldn't that be great.

It sounds good on the surface, and there was a time in my life when friends and I thought about and planned for an intentional community with a focus on natural healing and living. It was a great idea, but we quickly began to realize the politics involved in something like that... and how easy it would be to become secluded from the rest of the world.

In the end, we decided that we already live in decent communities and if we wanted to make a difference in our lives and within out communities, all we had to do was walk out our front door. :)

But I certainly would love to have a place like that to go to as a retreat. Sometimes you just need a break from life.

that is what bothers me, not because you see it in this way but because i know that many people agree with this idea. The idea of using this as a vacation rather than your reality. When i say community i mean a place where their are jobs for us people, their are people who live in the community who arent jedi and those who practice. Think of it as being a whole new world in where it is only people that feel the same as you do. thousands of us, yes their will be politics with the common but that doesnt mean anyone will be attacked, if anything they'll be ignored.

Remember im talking about a whole world "community" with stores, schools, lounges etc... but just focused on the Jedi community.

I wouldn't, because I think it's important for Jedi to live in the world, in order to bring peace and harmony to those who don't share our path.

Also communities founded on shared beliefs or principles often descend into either complete disillusionment, or (much) worse. I think as with most things in life, balance is better.

I would visit a temple but definitely wouldn't live there.

Isolating ourselves from the very people who we serve. Creating further divides in a world already so segregated.

When we see somethings as good,
others become bad.

I wouldn't mind. I don't see why we couldn't live in a temple the same way we live in our current houses. besides proximity means better resources and support. A group of Jedi living together could easily, let's say start a homeless shelter. It's not so easy on your own.

Convictions are more dangerous foes of truth than lies.

I was talking with Alex a few weeks ago and mentioned how in years to come, we would be sitting as old men on the porch of a physical Temple, watching the apprentices training in the grounds and reminiscing about the old days when we were only online. I would still like that to happen if possible :D

It would certainly make meetings a lot easier as things could be decided more quickly and physical items could be thrown at people who fell asleep! lol

I'm afraid it won't be until I'm an old man (being one of the youngest here) that we could see this happen! It sure would be nice though! :cheer:

In the end (for me) the decision to live in a place like this would really be determined by how involved the temple was in the local community and how it would handle family situations.

For instance, the mentality of some of the people who wanted to start the community with me was that our kids would essentially belong to the community. I'm all for the whole concept that it takes a village to raise a child, but many of them wanted to stick the kids all together in a sort of dorm and have the adults take it in turns to look over the kids. I don't like the idea of having my child not having that parental bond and hardly ever seeing me.

It was ideas like that, that in the end made me give up on the whole thing. So yeah, it would depend on a lot of things.
