You just don't like the attention it brings you![]()

Go to My TotJO (not your profile, the 'wall' bit) then on the right hand side where it would normally show your friends it shows people's profile pictures and there are some buttons to change the view mode. One of them is popular...

Hmm this must be based on profile views since I disabled karma...

I agree. I've found the active, new and online very handy myself. I hope those stick around, too.

Now that the applications are rolling in again, I never realized how much I use post counts to make sure I see all the posts of a person...
I understand what you are all saying, and I will adapt, but, I personally used it quite often...

When I first read this thread I was a bit conflicted as to my stance on the topic. I use the counters to keep up with things and what people are doing.
Playing games and turning a tool into a competition is not bad and it is not good. It is part of human nature. Rather than take that away would it not be better to point out folly? We preach tolerance and understanding… so why is it that when something comes up we don’t like we get rid of it?
I am not a fan of rap music, but that does not mean I think it should be banned. I just don’t listen to it. I know that others may like it and it is not my place to decide what you should listen to.
I feel that the counters should be restored; think of it as practice in tolerance and an opportunity to teach others.

Does it matter if they are there or not ?
I know that about a quarter of my posts (perhaps even probably more) are just a word or two, a joke (mostly bad), a smiley - not something that should have the same consideration as a thousand-word commentary. Yet for the counter, both are just posts.
It may not even be that a person is pumped up on having a large number of posts, but strangely enough, a higher number could lend its weight to credibility. That can be dangerous. Just because one has said something/things often, doesn't make it right.
With regard to the Thank you's -- perhaps that would best not be there. As said before, I don't know about anyone else, but my use of this is either to really thank someone for a remark, to acknowledge or simply to mark that page as read. Nothing to puff one's ego up over (I have prettier bookmarks, if you would like).
Jestor, I really don't understand how that can be helpful. I mean I may see that a person has made 31 posts say, and I'll mark with a Thank you the ones I read -- but I don't count thereafter to see if there are 31 ... besides, apart from checking journals, if I do miss one, it is not a catastrophe.
