I put this here because it is for mental health reasons that I do so, but I have decided to delete my facebook account. I feel strongly that it is not good for my mental health.
Is that foolish?

As another person who dropped Facebook, I can say it's one of the best choices to do with the internet I've ever made.
I deleted my account a few years ago, after realising how much negativity flows on the facebook feed. Facebook becomes a way of feeding one's self doubts, which only makes the feelings worse, which means they post more on Facebook.. and then the cycle starts again. Maybe not for all people, but definitely for many I saw.
There are better ways of keeping in contact I think.

It's not for everyone. For me, it's a means of connecting with others, and it's really helped me reach out to assist them. Where it might be a negative influence on some, on others it may be a way of really fulfilling their life. I'm the sort of person that talks through my problems- I enjoy good conversations, I love to hear various points of view, I'll take things into account, but I know when to post something publicly and when I just need to talk with someone using the PM system- because I found a way to make it work.
Thing is, I'm my own situation in that. There are plenty of others that it just breeds issue after issue after issue. Without realizing it, you get sucked into the drama of your own life because everyone feels like they have to weigh in on Facebook. It's so...normal.
If Facebook isn't for you, get rid of it, if it is for you, you'll find a way to make it work. So no- you are not foolish for getting rid of it.

I once posted this here in another thread quite a long time ago. I figured I'd put it here too since its relevant and gives some good points. I've been free of facebook for over a year now and counting.

I have a bunch of paid accounts that I can't access if I deactivate my fb. So, I just removed my notifications and turned off my chat. No more fb for me for a while.

I actually like fb but I don't have many people on it and I delete those that just put negative crap on..
Mostly I keep it for seeing what my daughter is doing, hoilday pictures and days out, I get to actually see they are fine and sadly I play all the games.. Yep I am a candy crush addict.

I have heard that ancient warriors had to be aware that their sword could overcome and start controlling them...something about the power of ending a life becoming addictive..taking what we want...not caring how it hurt or ended people...
Also, thanks for the video and the comments...I feel much better.
