I like the one I use for keeping my meditating to a specific time...

As well as seeing "how long a streak" I can do... lol..

I assumed it was the group titled "The Living Force".

Let me know if it is a different group...

Hi,

I've just submitted a new group "Temple of the Jedi Order" - not sure what the process is / how frequently they enable new submissions, though. I'll post an update as soon as the group shows up in the search.

I've also joined "The Living Force" group for lack of alternatives until then.

As for OS compatibility: the app is available for iOS and Android. The basic version is free, the deluxe version (with guided meditations etc.) apparently costs something - I can't see the price as I purchased it several years ago and it now just gives me the download symbol on the app store. If your phone runs Android, you have the possibility to check it out first and get a refund if you don't like.

regards,

Cyan

For myself - Probably for all the wrong reasons....!

I've typically just free-timed my meditation or used the timer on my watch or phone.

However, I've not "journal-ed" my meditations. I'm curious if this will give me an impetus to track and provide a basis for journal-ing my meditation.

Beyond that, it's a tool, nothing more than tech-bling for the mind... ;-)

Same reason for me - just like my fitness tracker gives me an incentive to do sports, I find using an app that keeps track of my practice to be an incentive to continue once my old habits try to re-establish themselves

It's useful. Traditionally monks would meditate with someone to ring a gong or bell to tell them when it was time to finish, this is a modern, technological equivalent you can carry around in your pocket.

Also like anything else, tracking one's progress helps to build and reinforce the meditation habit. I have Meditation Helper set so if I haven't completed a meditation by a certain time of day, it notifies me as a reminder. Given the number of times before I had it I'd intend to meditate and then forget until I was too tired, that's pretty handy.

In addition to that, prayers and mantras have been counted with beads for centuries--the beads don't help us pray, but they help us keep the habit of praying. (if anyone knows of a decent app purpose-built for those applications, do let me know. :P )

As to the Insight Timer app, there's also an email address one can contact to see about making guided meditations for the app. Perhaps, in the future, if we as a collective group came up with some in the course of TotJO activities or discussions, we could have someone (or a few someones) attempt to share them with our group on the app, too?
