TOTJO Rites

I've scoured the FAQs and the forums and, despite people referring to their being in various Rites and there being mention that Rites exist, I can't seem to find a list of what Rites exist and what they mean or stand for as groups.
Is there a list out there or do I need to keep my eyes and ears open for clues along the way?

Through passion I gain strength and knowledge
Through strength and knowledge I gain victory
Through victory I gain peace and harmony
Through peace and harmony my chains are broken
There is no death, there is the force and it shall free me

At least that's how I interpret it...
And I believe someone who have been here when they actually did exist should explain instead of me. I also have no idea why am I not stopping typing and why I am moving mouse to click submit...

Perhaps I will get a reply from one of the fine folks who follow the rite.
I am curious and wonder how it differs from the traditional Buddhist sense...

I am only a Jedi...
The rites were here when I started, that's the best definition I could think of...
There was Pureland (which I write Pure Land), Abrahamic, Pagan, Humanist, and Fifth/Sith...
Its probably time I removed it from my signature, lol...
They are really unimportant, as they too, further separate us...
On walk-about...
Sith ain't Evil...
Jedi ain't Saints....

Religions, including, perhaps especially ours, - aside the social aspect ; they bring us together - are upaya, they are tools, or yana, vehicles. When one says : "I AM Jedi, Abrahamic, Pagan, Buddhist/Eastern, Sith &c ..." it is almost like saying "I AM a Peugot, or a drill press, or a Boeing ..." This does not prove devotion, but derision. The dimensions of religions reconcile the conflicting aspects of ourselves with regard to the overall experience(s) of Living. We would no more cling to (unless we just cannot put it down) any tool or vehicle, once its use is accomplished. Would one carry about a hammer once all the nails are driven ? Or when one lands at Heathrow, would one keep the aeroplane on one's back for later use ? And we shouldn't worry about letting go (faith), it will still be there when we need it again.
The rites, as it could be made metaphor, are perhaps somewhat like different sectors of a hospital (the TotJO). We come here to heal from the accidents of Life. Yet, given our personal par-courses in getting here, we have all had different accidents. One may need Abrahamic heart-work, or Buddhist brain surgery, or Pagan proctology (
Now, that said, I'm not suggesting getting in good shape though the Jedi and then ditching us ... We're not quite all better ourselves. But the idea is to get well, get real, get to know who we really are. And just like a heart patient who is cured is not going to stay in the cardiac ward or the pagan with a stick up his ... well, we do not stay anchored in these 'services' (rites).
I also see them as divisions, but have since come to understand how they can be initially helpful (by talking it over with Akkarin) just as it is initially helpful in a hospital to not have psychiatry, for instance, in the same space as the obstetrics ward.
Does that help ?

If one takes a modern Western view of treatment. If one takes a different view--the view, for example, that a proper treatment is a lifelong pursuit of wellness--then I disagree with your statement. I have a friend who practices t'ai chi, one who practices yoga, and one who monitors his diet regularly. Each does so with the understanding that by applying such a "treatment" to their lives, they are preventing problems in the future and not simply treating symptoms. The one will not give up yoga when she feels she's flexible enough, only to use it again later. The other won't abandon t'ai chi once her joints and back "recover". And the last one? If she goes back to eating the way she did before, it will be because she has chosen to disregard her goals rather than that he has reached them.Alexandre Orion wrote: The rites, as it could be made metaphor, are perhaps somewhat like different sectors of a hospital (the TotJO). ) but the idea is to get well from the treatment -- not to stay in treatment for the rest of one's Life.
This is how I see the Rites, too. Yes, you may change during your stay. You may learn things you didn't know, and unlearn things you didn't need to know, and your initial Rite/SIG may no longer be something you want in your life. But i isn't that way for everyone, I don't believe. I don't really believe faith is a thing you "grow" out of unless you're presented with new, opposing information.
I've heard an alarming number (but still less than ten) say that's "the best thing about TOTJO"; that it opens the doors for you to find out "where you really belong." That bothers me on a pretty fundamental level. If that is a more widespread belief than I have seen, I wonder what could be done about it?Alexandre Orion wrote: Now, that said, I'm not suggesting getting in good shape though the Jedi and then ditching us ...

Agreed, it seems an unnecessary distinction. Pure Land Jediism as per the doctrine strikes me as inherently Humanist.

The name SIG indicates that anyone can partake in any SIG - it's about having an interest in learning more about something in particular, not about trying to categorize oneself. "I would like to discuss and learn more about Eastern philosophies", not "I AM A BUDDHIST JEDI".
We have three Special Interest Advisors but nowadays they are more there for personal, one-on-one guidance and expertise relating to the SIGs than for doing rolecalls and organizing team-bonding party games

Can't cover every combination...
Most likely it would have been lumped under Pagan...

And as i said, part of the reason we did away with them...
The world is too vast, beliefs too numerous to be pigeonholed into 5-6 "rites"....
Or 5000-6000 rites....
People love their identities, and it leads away from the idea of "we are all jedi" by further separation...
