Everyday Observations of the Force (Tao)

It's fascinating the kinds of things I seem to notice and think about from day to day, that express the nature of the Force (or Tao if you'd like), as I am learning about it. I'm sure others here have also had these kinds of observations too.

For example, I am a fanatic about chocolate milk. Of course I've always loved the taste... but why? Maybe it's the idea of putting chocolate with milk. It just seems inherently perfect... In my mind, the opposite taste of chocolate would be milk. Think of how some of us eat chocolate chip cookies and then want a glass of milk. Chocolate and milk, to me, seem like opposites in this way which harmoniously co-exist to create a blissful taste. They each compliment the other. It's like putting yin & yang together into a drink. Individually, the ingredients are good, yes. But when put together, they create a whole that gives each of them a great purpose, and in the end, is undeniably satisfying.

So this thread is for you guys. Anytime it happens, feel free to come here and share and talk about your thoughts and observations, as small, or as large as they may be, where you see the Force showing itself to you in these kinds of interesting ways. :)

Tonight I was cleaning my carpet. I spilled my whole punch into a shag carpet. You can imagine my distress. As I was trying to pull them out of the carpet, I kept trying too hard. I was pulling so much. Just little circles of paper... hard to get out.

So, I thought about it: just relax. Instead of pulling, I gently picked one out at a time without "trying" at all.

Wu wei.

My carpet is clean.

From "whole punch" I imagined a big glass of punch being poured out on the carpet, none of it left.

Then I realized, "3-hole punch"!

Not wanting to go - or thinking one 'shouldn't' go - and then it turns out to be one of the most stimulating conversations of the year ...

Wanting to go - thinking one 'should' go - and it turns out to be a crushing bore ...

Playing Need For Speed (video racing game), I will tend to get in 4th place or worse on a course at times.

Then I will try again. I stop focusing on the technicalities of controlling the car, of the specifics of the game's physics. I zone out.

I just drive. I don't try to do anything. I throw away all my intentions of winning. I just want to drive and that's all.

I pass last place.

I pass the next 5 cars.

I don't realize what position I'm in. I don't care. I'm just driving.

The race ends. I finish first.

Thinking back soon after its over, I somehow only notice, then, that my performance was flawless.
