Have you ever been ashamed of your race?

I'm mostly Irish, but my earliest ancestors that I can trace were Norwegian Vikings who came to Ireland. I'm very proud of my race/ethnicity. I'm proud of my Viking ancestors for being explorers and among the most advanced civilizations of that time. I'm proud of my Ulster heritage, because my ancestors were resilient and became the backbone of America, and Ulster-Irish also comprised most of the continental army. I guess, having Irish ancestry, I am proud that my ancestors were so resilient in surviving all the oppression and genocide from their neighbors.

Never!

I'm Persian, and I'm really proud of it. Proud of it's history, it's myths, it's .... There is nothing to be ashamed of, no matter where you live.

I consider myself to be part of the human race.. and yes, I'm often ashamed of the things we do.

On my home planet of Melmac, cats are considered a delicacy… now that I have spent time living among you wonderful people and you pets, I admit that I am ashamed we ate so many of the tasty little guys.

Cats are far cuter then I ever gave them credit for being… and they taste good too!

The guillotine was actually invented as a humane way to kill people by the first republic. Before that it was all rather gruesome.

Yes, swords for nobles, the axe for commoners ....

... either way, the head came off.

And have I ever been ashamed of my race, -- no.

Have I ever been ashamed of our species, -- non plus.

Do I question sometimes why 'must' we survive, -- yes.

Do I question 'if' we will survive, -- also, yes.

Do I care ? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ....

Be a philosopher ; but, amidst all your philosophy, be still a man.

The axe was only for nobles. And usually took more than on attempt before death. Other methods used on commoners were hanging (can take a while), breaking wheel (particularly awful) and burning at the stake (just as bad if not worse)

The law introduced by guillotin also insured that family members were free from harassment.

Greetings my fellow brothers and sisters. I stumbled across this site while googling for an article based on 'the essence of patience' and consequently here I am an hour later after a brief crash course on Jedism. May I say seeing a thread like this justifies my wonder.
I concur with those who say we r all human and should therefore collectively approach the term race under that banner n banner only. That being said I suppose it derives from me being from an ethnic 'race' which on paper is the most failed state n civilisation to be found on earth. Based on facts n consistent statistics, my country has been in anarchy for over 2 decades which is almost unheard of yet I am as proud as they come to be hailing from that particular race. Yes my friends I happen to be from Somalia and my race on paper is the worst. It is only when I delved deeper into my history did I realise we were once mighty and light years ahead of our surrounding ethnicities. Ok ...ok maybe proud is not a word that I should loosely use but let's just say once I transcended relying on being told who I am or how bad my people are and instead constructing for myself who I am n where I am from, it is then I realised media is immensely powerful in shaping perceptions even of the self to ones self.
All in all I believe we are ALL humans and soon in the not too distant future the issues of race n ethnicities will take a back seat as survival and tending to necessities will unite all. We have never been more ONE yet so disjointed as a global audience. The truth shall always prevail and I rest my head nightly knowing that the natural and universal laws (forces in this instance) that be will topple hatred.
Be blessed my people and spread the love. Excellent platform which oozes with peace this forum is and may it long continue to be.
