Guardian Angels And Protective Forces

As I was walking down the road earlier I found myself thinking about how little physical harm I have come to in my lifetime compared to most people I know, particularly the sorts of harm that most children routinely experience at some point. For example - I have never broken a bone, despite being obsessed with sports and climbing trees throughout my childhood. I've never really had any serious injury - I've never had stitches or had to have an operation. I've never been stung by an animal/insect. I've never had chickenpox despite all of my classmates getting it and my sister having it whilst living in the same house as me. I've never had a serious illness.

And I was thinking, there must be plenty of kids who have experienced ALL of those things. There must be very few 22 year olds who've avoided all of them. I'm sure it's just co-incidence - combined with me always having been quite a careful and un-clumsy person. But I don't like co-incidence, and it got me thinking about Guardian Angels, or if you don't believe in personal Guardian Angels, other protective forces.

I'll put my cards on the table and say that I don't believe in them. Or I probably don't - I'm always open to having my mind changed. But I wondered whether anyone here does? Or would like to share an interesting story about something that has happened that seems to indicate a protective force? And if you don't believe in them, you are of course equally welcome to chip in.

I will admit that I had a CRAZY childhood and a rather daring early adulthood. Even though I have had broken bones, stitches, burns and a myriad of other injuries there have been several times in my life where I was told that I should not have lived through it. I know that there is some guiding force or overseeing guardian who worked several hours of overtime in my life!

Perhaps you never lost your footing because there was a “hand” holding it in place when others might have fallen? I do not subscribe to co-incidence or luck but I do believe there are Forces out there which help us along our paths, even if they are never fully recognized. And if it were either an invisible energy field, a spirit from the unknown, ancestral guardians, totem spirits, guardian angels or whatever who ever wishes to label the phenomenon… I a personally glad they are there watching over us. And I am thankful!

And who is to say that we do not fulfill these roles ourselves? Have you ever caught someone who was about to fall? Asked a friend to do something which in-avertedly caused them to not be in a bad place at some bad point in time? Or just helped someone that was in despair? Perhaps, sometimes what we see as mysterious is just how it had to be to someone else?

My old school friend Vicky's mum is a big believer in Guardian Angels, Spiritual Mediums, Tarot cards and all that gubbins. We were round her house one evening when she was having a spiritual reading and the medium came to talk to us afterwards and got onto the subject of Guardian Angels and that she could see them.

Being inquisitive I asked what our Guardians looked like. Starting with Vicky, then her brother Dom, my cousins Stu, Liam and Amy she described their Guardians. When she got to me though, she stared at me, around me, and said "You don't seem to have one, I can't sense anything from you". She seemed a little concerned for me.

I'm intrigued as to why I don't have one, but then again I'm not really a believer so it doesn't bother me.

You're story is impressive, V. :)

I've had a lot of bad things happen to me in the past 10 years. While I was in the hospital after my car crash (and this is something I've told very few people), I swear I saw an angel. She came into my room, and I felt at peace when she was there. I felt love. It's hard to explain.

I do believe in angels, but I don't think they're everywhere for everyone. I think my experience was just to make me feel like I was still very much alive. I still had to face the major hurtles of getting back to normal life on my own. Had I been "helped" in any other way, I might not have found the strength inside to overcome my obstacles. Ultimately, I had to feel alone. But "alone" and "helpless" are not the same thing ;)

I find that disturbing. I don't know why.

I do believe in guardian angels, spirit guides, the whole lot. When I was a little girl my grandmother was telling us about them (though I already knew her name) and took us on a guided meditation to meet ours. I saw mine and even though I don't really talk to her anymore (I've neglected my guardian angel terribly) I still believe.

I think we lose a lot of our universal awareness as we age because we're taught not to believe or see these things. It's crazy how intuitive kids can be. Thankfully, I was lucky enough to have open minded parents so I got to keep a lot of my loony beliefs. That and our haunted house helped solidify things a bit. "Turn off the radio!" "It's not on."

Seraph Arel, you said you didn't believe so please disregard this if it offends you, but maybe the medium didn't see yours because it didn't want to be seen. Some spirits/guardians are "shy"

No offence taken at all Wendaline. When I say I'm not a believer, that's not strictly accurate. I remain open minded but lean much more in the way of my Physics based explanations. I'd be naive and ignorant to totally disregard other beliefs.

I'm not sure why people find it hard to believe in "guardian angels". If we are to believe that all entities return to the Force, who is to say that some of these "Force Spirits" are not tasked to watch over we who have yet to transform to the Force?

There are many possible explanations for these unknown instances of guardianship, whether it be physics or spiritual, the fact is that there is something or someone "watching" over us.

I got visited by what is best described as an Angel. It was either that or an off-the-scale high-order sleep paralysis hallucination. That, and the occasional premonitory voice I've heard audible warning me of unforeseen events, has made it really difficult to remain skeptical about at least the possibility of some external sentience being able to materialize in my awareness in culturally familiar forms with unusual skills.

I'm not so sure if I'm ready to ascribe individual identities to them though, as this to me seems to be ignoring that it would be logical for any such thing to use cultural identities as a vessel for communication instead of an actual source identity - since I'm probably more interested in the truth behind the message then the message itself. Though it might be useful to identify with values of the experiences as they might constitute part of the message as well.... or it all might be a construct of my own minds accessing the Force directly but through subconscious involvement the experience involves these obscure experiences.

As I'm not religious I do not believe in angles but remain open minded. My belief is that we all run on borrowed energy and it is this energy which is also part of the force. Once we die, our energy disperses and returns to the universe to be re-purposed. As I believe the energy disperses I don't believe it can be there be there to 'look out for someone'.

That's the basic explanation behind my belief though.
