What do you do for a living?

I am the guy filling potholes, scraping dead animals off your roads, fixing water leaks, cleaning drains, mopping bathrooms in public buildings...
The list goes on, and I will (if I havent yet) bore you with it....
But, I am mostly outside, no direct supervisor, no customers yelling at me...
Just me and my shovel, digging ditches...

On walk-about...

Reminds me more of the "sweeper" character in Terry Pratchett's "Thief of Time"...
Oh, and I'm a complementary therapist (shiatsu, reiki, massage, shamanic healing, tarot) and teacher (reiki, shamanism, tarot), just about to take up a position as assistant teacher at my Shiatsu College. I also design website and graphics for people who want low cost, effective websites that look nice

What do the Jedi here at this Temple do for a living? And if you don't work for a living, are you in school? What takes the largest part of your time during the day?
I'm a mother - that's what takes up the largest part of my time during the day. Time with kids, cleaning, cooking, laundry, etc. etc.
In the past, I completed technical college to be a pharmacy technician.
I am currently in school to become a certified yoga instructor.
I'm also a Jedi apprentice. Oh wait...

Now I'm in my first production job, and first job I'm not working with customers. Honestly, I'm in love with it. I build cables for hospital and military use. I'm a solder tech on an assembly line. Basically, I sit for 10 hours a day with an iPod and a butt-load of cables and connectors, putting them together. I'm enjoying doing things with my hands and feeling like I've contributed to something, rather than standing around waiting for customers to come in.

I study Geographic Information Systems (Analytical Cartography), Classics (Ancient Mediterranean History) and Anthropology, with minors in History and Latin.
I work behind a computer for about half the day.
Most of my day I am reading stuff on the computer or fussing with books, or eating, or [strike]wasting time[/strike] relaxing
Very cool! I especially like your emphasis on History and Ancient Mediterranean History. History was my favorite subject in high school and college.

By the way, I go to a difficult private school and maintain a 3.9 GPA, so I think I'm a hard worker
I actually found your situation with the old man interesting to discuss, Learn to Know.
He seemed to get really fired up and offensive with you when you told him about a job he utterly hates. I personally don't think he meant any harm. True, he was rude. But not intentionally. He just got strongly emotional when you mentioned your job - the idea of being trapped behind a computer filled that old man's mind and made him yell at you in horror :woohoo:
My point being that, in general, all of us snap at someone due to a subject, and not due to the person. You follow?
I don't think he meant any harm either...and even if he did, as long as his "harm" was just words, I don't care anyway, haha.
I do follow.
For some reason that only he knows, there is some deep-seated animosity about working behind a desk. Who knows? Maybe he used to work behind a desk but was put out to pasture by someone younger...
The reasons could be myriad. Needless to say, I found his reasons for working outside intriguing and I told him I'm glad he likes the outdoors.

It is a fulfilling job, for I get to meet a lot of creative and artistic people of all ages, and have been widely regarded as their 'resident philosopher'. It is hard to say precisely what my job entails, as I get to do a lot of different and interesting things. Today, I get to go back to work after a six-week holiday. I'm looking forward to it ...
Cool! You're our resident philosopher here, too!

I'm fortunate that I'm insulated enough in the company so I don't have customers yelling at me either. (We have Client Services to handle those illustrious duties, ha.)
