Just say it's a RPG site. That's what people think of us anyway lol

Non, non, non ... on ne peut prôner le mensonge ; ça va à l'encontre de toutes nos valeurs et jette l'huile sur le feu de tous qui crieraient "secte".

For the rest, I completely concur with War Beauty. One cannot blame parents for being sceptical. On the other hand, they should at least investigate that of which they are sceptical.

I roleplay all the time....

Sometimes I'm:

A father...
A husband
A instructor
A teacher
A Jedi
A Sith
A ditchdigger (like right now, I am posting from a ditch... lol)
A friend
A mentor

I play a lot of rolls.... (I did stay at a holiday inn once... lol)

On walk-about...

Sith ain't Evil...
Jedi ain't Saints....

I was the same way when i joined
i just told my mom a few weeks ago.she laughed at fist but listened.
Now she just gave the site to a coworker who was interested lol
just relax, your more likley to "get caught" if your all tense

its best just to tell them,or dont...your choice really
i wouldnt lie though...it makes it harder to tell them latter

I have to throw my thoughts in here...

I would tell my parents if I were you. I was faced with the same hard decision when I first joined, but I talked to my mother, and while she was upset, she saw that I really connected with the religion, and that I was serious about it.

My mother died 6 months ago, about a year after I joined. You never know when the people you love will be returned to The Force. If I hadn't have told her, I would be guilt ridden, as I am about a lot of different things right now.

So, I would tell them. Sit down with them at the table, and have an open discussion. Show them what the site is all about. Be open and honest. There is no reason to hide it as an RPG site, no offense to Ren. If you're open about it, they won't think you are up to something, and won't be watching you, if they even were. But, this is my own opinion. You do whatever you feel to be the right decision for you.

Non, non, non ... on ne peut prôner le mensonge ; ça va à l'encontre de toutes nos valeurs et jette l'huile sur le feu de tous qui crieraient "secte".

Jed lie when it's convenient to do so. For example when you don't want Luke skywalker to join the Dark side, you tell him darth vader killed his father. :D

I didn't see that as lying....

Has not my current, higher self, "killed" my lower, animalistic self?

Its interpretation....

Sith ain't Evil...
Jedi ain't Saints....

My thoughts...

Your folks are "old fashioned", which means they might function on this level: "Sitting them down and talking to them about your religion", could be a bit intimidating toward them. This may increase their chances of turning on you. Some function like this because many who are, for example, devout Christians, have a default mode of "hoping to convert" others through what, at first, seems like casual "sit down" chat, and so this is what some tend to assume from other religions. Even if this isn't the case, there is still the chance they don't want to hear about it if they don't like it. So this is my advice to you (to ANYBODY who is in any situation like this):

Decide to accept your path without fear, shame, or guilt over what ANYBODY thinks about it. You'll be able to enjoy yourself and function more smoothly and with a clearer mind. After all, what's the saying about where fear leads?... ;)

Do what you do as a Jedi - novice, initiate, apprentice, knight, or master. If anybody asks you about what you are and believe, tell them. You don't have to say "I'm a Jedi", but you shouldn't be afraid to either. However, in certain contexts, things may roll better if you open with what a Jedi does and practically believes before you ever use the word "Jedi".

The take away here: Let others (parents friends, etc) come to you. Tell them openly, honestly, and confidently about it when/if they do. Explain Jediism to the best of your ability (the benefits of what Jediism has to offer in terms of personal development, world knowledge, etc) BUT if you feel you can't yet, direct them here to TOTJO and give them the email or phone number of a cardinal or Master here who can offer support to help. If a parent or loved one rejects the offer and insists you have no part in Jediism, keep this in mind: Nobody can make you believe or not believe anything. Keep on keeping on, do good things, and show them by example as to why you believe what you believe.

The more confident you stand in your own beliefs, the more you will come to be respected for them.

“For it is easy to criticize and break down the spirit of others, but to know yourself takes a lifetime.”

I guess I think around the same lines as Proteus. Mind your own business, don't make a big deal out of it.

If there is an issue with minors on site being abused or something, we have all the logs (around 1gig of them per month) and will co-operate with the police... Whether their parents were aware of the kid being here or not.

I didn't see that as lying....

It was... And I quote: "Luke, I am your father". Mostly machine and dark sided, but definitely still breathing. Plus he gets back to the light side at the end of episode 6.
