Jediism Round Table

Does a round table need a head? Perhaps a chairperson at each meeting in order to ensure that things do not spiral out of control but such a role could be appointed each time. Since there's no authority, power or control attached to the meeting and it's just a sharing of ideas and a place for discussion, the role of chairperson would be an admin one only. The only meeting between orders that I know of took place to dicsuss the hoods issue with Daniel Jones and a chairperson was necessary to ensure that everyone had their fair turn to speak and that things were kept more or less civil.

Randi, this is off topic but I can't shake the feeling that you asked me a question that I've yet to answer. Maybe even two. If so please remind me.

I believe the idea, was not to pass laws or govern one another, but the exchange of ideas....
If no new news, meeting adjourned, who's buying the first round of ale?
If something that affected the communities at large, such as the law passed in the UK, support both local and abroad, could be rallied.....
As well as resources for the nomadic Jedi who prefer to do their own thing. Such as an information center of current events.....
The Legendary King Aurthur, implemented the 'round table' to signify equality between kingdoms, large and small, some things affect us all.....
I believe the representative or 'head' being referred to was who (from TOTJO, for example) would represent us... Not the head of the group at the round table...
That would be a matter for the EC, as I see it....
Again, I am just commenting on the thread..... These are just my thoughts...

I let my membership expire for not paying the dues but when I was a member of the National Association of Parliamentarians I was called in as a total outsider to Chair a large meeting merely to run and rule the thing according to Robert's Rules of Order. I would think that would be the sole job of a Chair who should express no opinion except on the rules of order chosen and who votes on nothing.

All we need is a chat venue where representives can show up, discuss and issue, hopefully come to a consensus and then return to their communities.
We don't need a head, or a site to do this. We just need a chat and people to show up.
That's it

Perhaps if we used one of our spare sites (as John suggested) to host that Chat? That way, the domain name might be owned by us but it would not actually be in \"TOTJO land\". Unless anyone knows of some other place where we could hold such a meeting?

Since we have a fast server with bandwidth to spare here is something we can try as an experiment. We can donate this service to the community at no extra cost to us then see what happens.
We put the same chat program up that we have here except that anyone can pick a name for that session and all the IRC commands are available. The admins jobs would be solely to kick out genuine rabble rouser's and SPAM. Abuse of the admin position get's the person kicked from the position.
Any organization should be able to email us the names of two or three admins and we'll take it at face value and know soon enough if there is something rotten in Denmark.
When a person enters the chat there will be a notice that since this is a public chat there is no expectation of privacy and transcripts can and will be published.
Should we give it a go.
I can get that done myself then we pick our admins.
The URL: Jediism.net which is very appropriate. We're offering it as a free public service so take it or leave it. If and when the discussions there lead to something better; so be it.

just use skype conference then... the purpose of having a site is that some people arent available 24 hours a day. A small private forum is essentially a laggy skype conference.

I agree with Xan, we should keep this as simple as possible to begin with. From the initial stages, perhaps we can open it up to be an entire community site, where any and all Jedi/Sith can come together and talk and where it isn't just used for official meetings.
And ren, skype is good, but people may not be comfortable with having to post their personal skype details for example. We have no problems with our current chat feature, and we had about 9 people on there the other night with no problems to report.

create a skype (or else) account just for that purpose then. the totjo chat can be hard to read when it's busy, and it's totjo, so not independent.
