Kana, trademarks are word and images (logos) that solely allow the trademark owner to provide a product or service. the point of registering a trademark is to prevent other people from competing with the same name. If I were to create an OS i wouldn't be able to call it windows or apple. Lucas owns trademarks on Jedi to sell games, figurines, books, etc. If you want to provide a good or service under that name, first you need Lucas' authorization, that is he agrees that it will not have a negative impact on his mark, plus usually a fee, because after all he came up with it, and he wants to get paid for his work just like everyone else.
Some people have tried in the past to sell Jedi certificates, and they were told off. The same thing happened to the CoJ when they were called, I believe, Church of the Jedi.
I couldbe wrong, but if I remember totjo had tried to use cafepress to sell t-shirts etc with Jedi on it and it was immediately blocked.

Do a google - plenty of 'Jedi xyz' good for sakle and many nothing to do with lucasarts et al
not getting at you - just amuses me what lucas deems a 'threat'
of course - one can always state 'not affiliated with lucas' blah blah much as totjo does on its homepage
It Temple Of The JEDI Order and nothing has been said to my knowledge - oh well - since weve had further input from baral/coj/Jones Inc i think it fair to say they no longer need our advice.

There is a lot of confusion on what Jediism is, and what it is not. Jediism is simply someone that follows the Jedi path more like an Atheist. People that follow Jediism do not believe in gods or goddesses or ascribe to other religions. We do not see the Force as a deity or any greater being, but rather it is simply the Force, energy that makes up all living life and binds us all.

Which only goes to show how multifaceted Jediism is, and how a person like Jedi Xhaiden can loose sight of the forest because of a few tress he is standing in front of. But never the less its good to have such insightfull people who know what others believe or not, especially for those without a life of their own. This type of service was offered also by the RC Church for its sheep up until the sixtees and still is to one degree or another.

That's what Jediism the jedi religion was like. Now it isn't a religion anymore, but a group of people who follow other religions and like to think they're jedi. But that's what jedi realism is, so... yes, things are far from clear.

It's not belief, it's fact. That was the main reason for the split of the original community into jediism and jedi realism. But you wouldn't know, it was before your time here, and in fact, before totjo's creation.
I'm not saying Jediism was perfect: lack of discipline and commitment, selling out to please the new guys really aren't Jedi traits. Allowing people to do whatever they wanted, complete lack of structure.we brought it upon ourselves really. And I helped. I thought structure and organization was premature... I eventually softened up a bit too, started tolerating Jedi realists (I used to feel insulted when people called me realist). All of this is sad really.
I'm not sure I would call things that start out well and end up bad as \"wonderful\" though. But I've never been a dark-sider.

I have been thinking a lot about what you`ve said, wrote a reply and rewrote it, and somehow I can see what you`re getting at Ren. So what is this origional community you are refering to called? Maybe you`re putting too much expectations on others and not enough trust in your own potential. Yes there is Jediism here, just as there is a form of jedi realism, but there is also enough freedom you to make of this place what you want to.

ren, we have had a few discussions....
And Yes, all of you Jediist, practicioners of Jeddism, Jedi Realists, whatever, living and getting together in the online commuities, were the first to stand-up, and tell the world in print, \"I am a (Jediist, Jedi Realist, practice Jeddism)... whichever....
I was telling people, I follow the way of the Jedi, before computers were in every home... Because online commuities were established and consecrated to whart they are now, I am supposed to worry about what some people think about me and what I think or believe?
And with all respect to you and the the founding parents of all online commuities around this genre.....
So What?
Evolution occurs in everything, if you stop and look around... Most of the time, it is a positive thing, once in a while, it is not....
I do not agree with everythig that is said and wrote here at TOTJO, but I think I understand enough that it does not bother me... I told you before, this is the evolution of the mental aspect of the Jedi.... the physical is a slower movement, as we are more isolated in this way...
I joined the JRC in hopes of finding people in my area that I can practice with in a physical environment, hopefully, this movement gets going where that will be possible.....
You remind me of my Atheist friend, he runs around facebook, and possibly other sites.... touting the Atheist religion....
After all, that is what it is, is it not, a religion? A set system of values and beliefs saying no entity exists....
Who are you, to tell me, what I believe?
I'm not being beligerent, nor off-the-cuff, nor smart-@ss....
Nietzsche said of evolution, and I am paraphrasing, \"Evolution is survival of the weakest, to survive, you have to adapt, and have the inteligence to adapt... The strong, feel no need to change, they are the strongest, why should they change?\"
Did not work for the dinosaurs... Mammals prevailed... The little soft shelled, more intelligent creatures....
Those critters, with the ability to adapt their minds, were, and are, the strongest....
.... I hope you understand what I mean....

Oh I did not mean a particular website or organization, but simply real people who wanted to be Jedi... The original FA was one of them I believe There was a site that started in 97 too I think. What I mean by original community was the group of people who thought about living the jedi way but hadn't thought so much about it yet. The beginning. The phantom menace was released and people felt a need to stay away from SW because it was too inconsistent. That midichlorian business didnt go down smooth for anyone. That was 99. Then in 2001 the BBC decided to publish garbage about us. this was the big crisis for the jedi community. Calling ourselves \"jedi\" or \"Jedi religionist\" wasn't enough anymore, we had to show we were different from the census people, from what the bbc said of us and this is around when Jediism was created. There had been a bit of a battle between relan voklum and Opie... Opie hates Jediism and takes every opportunity to kick us in the balls, relan voklum wasn't hostile but nowehere to be found as far as I know. People who thought it wasn't and shouldn't be a religion became realists, Opie became himself and the others Jediists.
I'll be honest with you: I wasn't active back then. I was young, didnt care about all the politics and most importantly could not speak english well enough to have a clue what was going on beyond the basic doctrine, ideas, etc. After the media incident some big websites went down, new ones were created, with the belief that there is no such thing as bad publicity and the bbc and G. Lucas new films could cause no harm. Right. Those new big sites went down due to exhaustion, mergers didn't work. Since I was nothing but a lurker at the time, I can guarantee you this chaos didn't make the whole thing look good to outsiders and made Jediism look attractive to weirdos only, when what we needed were educated people and serious commitment not more obese guys playing with lightsabers and making lightning come out their hands with photoshop.
