It's Earth Day, and there's a challenge that has been issued to people who run blogs and v-logs around the community. The challenge is to write why you feel Earth Day (or rather protecting the environment) is an important endeavor of the Jedi Path by the end of tomorrow (23 April). :)

Not all of the bloggers and v-loggers have been reached, but we have a few that have said they are interested (Church of Jediism, Jedi Realists Radio and Just Jedi are hopeful to contribute). For all you out there that do blogs or v-logs and I've not been able to get around to you, I hope you'll consider jumping in on this project and posting your links in here for others to find. ^^ Marta Lina started us off, and I got mine in today. Another one will be posted tomorrow from Keith Williams.

I tried to sound a bit pretentious and preachy on purpose LOL, in writing something quickly in this regard;

Eyes enough to see the Moon speaking to your ears?

Our relationship to the nature atop this planet need only be taken in the context of its neighbourhood to boldly underline it as a sanctuary among the sucking space. Using only rudimentary geometry one can calculate the distance it sits, but to fathom its distance as our closest stellar object, one must appreciate the emptiness of that space as effectively vacuous nothingness - such you cannot take a single step to cross the distance to get there!

This invites the importance of its uniqueness, but to understand it as a sanctuary might require one to look upon the Moon and imagine living there - as you cannot take even a single breath once there!

Look further and see how vastly different each planet is, yet each one as deadly as the Moon, but none as deadly as the vast emptiness between them. So empty it does not deserve a name, for effectively nothing is there to be named.

Now look back here, at the things which make this place so suitable for us... the air we breath, the light we see, the water we are... all these things are balanced perfectly in such a way that we can be our most bare selves without death. Look deeper, see the intersections of systems we need to be. The systems work to buffer changes as they act together while they sit together and so perhaps one will realize that all life plays a role somewhere within this system of systems. Being born of it, its diversity becomes the defining characteristic of this places being.

Consider then for a moment, in all of all things here and in space, this might be the only place where life exists anywhere.... then one can start to realize the reality of where we actually are, like sitting on a piece carpet floating in a ocean with no shores. Is it a good idea to make a jacket from that rug?

Perhaps then one will see that the duty as the prime species is to protect and promote it's health above all other things, for while it bore us we can remain babies suckling on it's gifts till it can offer no more, or grow up into realized beings and take responsibility beyond our selfish desire. Now consider again this, and look back at how far the Moon really is away and perhaps one will realize, in this regard it does not matter if we are alone or not.
