How do others lure you into their fantasies?

Promised everyone he met he could end some of the biggest problems that "plagued" them on a day to day basis. They promoted him, much like the alchemist, and no he lives in the lap of luxury, playing everyone's fantasies and hoping no one catches on.
Cant think of his name at the moment... I dunno, feels like it has something to do with an angry duck...
This is not a political thread so stop making it one. stay on topic.
Twas on topic. Topic was asking if we knew anyone like that, whom could "magically solve all the problems without hard work". Seems fitting.
EDIT: note I made no mention of names. If your mind instantly jumps to politics, perhaps there is a reason why? Perhaps whomever you're thinking of has indeed learned to capitalise on imagination?
Uh huh... did the fantasy bubble break for you when reality set in? Obviously not cuz your version of the fantasy comes from a different source.
My version of the fantasy may come from a different source than yours, but does that make it wrong?

Yes it does when it comes from a position of passive aggressive delusion.

Dem liberals got your panties all up in a bunch?
I might be able to stretch and get the "passive aggressive" part. Where is the delusion in what Arisaig posted?

Lol well yea maybe if he could even claim that. He says down in the states, implying he's a canook and not even a US citizen so he's just parroting Canada's floundering socialist rhetoric without really knowing what he's talking about.
He says "living in the lap of luxury", "Spinning fantasy hoping no one catches on" (meaning liar), and "believes he can use magic to solve problems with no hard work". All categorically and delusionaly false. It's all just posturing bullshit that I don't think you intended for this thread. It's just a thinly veiled slam, not a valid contibution to the discussion.

So... did you watch the video?
Yes, I'm passive aggressive. Blame my military roots on that myself... but delusional is a title anyone has yet to apply to me.
I know that which I speak of. I do not go about speaking about that which I have not thoroughly researched. Tis not I that have derailed the thread, or pulled it in a way that it was intended. I made a valid point about an "alchemist" coming to town spouting stories about solutions from nowhere... like in the video. A fitting example. If you don't like it, don't respond to it, don't read it, don't let it affect you.
If I really am delusional, don't waste your time on me. But I will contribute as I see fit. It is up to you to choose to respond or not.
EDIT: If I had not mentioned anything about the states, would you have come to the same conclusion about whom I was talking about? We do realise how many people are down in the States, right? I could literally be talking about any one of them. If you read my description, and your mind instantly jumps to a single person, perhaps there is indeed something wrong with that individual?

I also do not think that playing with others fantasies is always a bad thing. Sometimes sugar coating the ugly side of things can give you the hope to move forward in spite of all the hardship. Keeping the dream alive until it becomes reality can be a lifesaver. It can also be a huge time sink so its a very risky thing that has to be considered case by case.
Further, I think this thread could benefit from not making personal attacks, assuming the worst of intent in others posts, and bashing beliefs you do not agree with. There is no need for this potentially very productive thread to devolve into this pettiness.

This reminded me of the movie La vita è bella. An interesting twist to the thread, for sure.

That is a perfect example. I actually used to play similar games with my sisters when we went through some bad abuse when I was a child. It helped try to comfort them in a time of hardship. So its not always bad. Just like the Jedi code the opposite side of the code are not evil or bad just risky. So this tactic can be used for good or ill and is one with great risk. But its not without merit.

I appreciate your concern for the thread, Kyrin. I don't think the whole Trump perception issue will be solved in a couple of posts, especially if we get into the whole game of "tyrant" vs "fake news" that we see in the media.
An interesting addition to this thread would be to see how liberal media might also be doing its share of fantasy-selling by fear mongering. I get that the issue of affordable health care is especially important up there, but it would naive to assume that liberal media is not as equally hyperbolized as conservative media.
