What of oaths made in anger, pain, or desperation?

Is there a "high ground" in standing by decisions made in your bleakest times?

There is a saying " If you cannot change your mind , you cannot change anything " in the last few days i have learned that rigidity does not get anyone anywhere , one has to cut people some slack and such in these matters , see it case by case ...

Belief is a word to describe an image we have of the world, for which we do not necessarily have evidence. As such, a belief is helpful in filling in the gaps for whatever unknowns we have in our mental map for navigating the world.

I see no value in keeping an error on a map when we finally do get new evidence that our previous image (belief) was inaccurate.

We make decisions aided by information. But at the heart of our decisions, there is a leap, a jump into the unknown based on a vision we hold dear. Oaths are born of this commitment to vision. Which is why marriages are meant to last not only "though better", but also "through worse"... despite an abundance of negative stimuli, we cling to a vision of something more.

Just as beliefs can change, so can vision. And when this happens, I think it is not only excusable, but crucial for the person to rescind their oath, out of respect to the rest of the Organization whose vision is no longer shared.

Belief at 100% shows no ability to question beliefs, no growth to be had. It is zealotry.

Unless it is used as a form of temporary Gnosis, like the use of an invocation during ritual. In this instance it is a form of applied psychology used in conjunction with Magick...

I'm very careful about what I exert unconditional belief onto, as any decision to do seems to be from an awareness that itself is conditional. And as all conditional things are conditional, I sort of tend to view unconditional belief as having minimum conditions rather then no conditions - and the most minimal conditioned unconditional belief then is with the only condition being a timeframe.

Don't ask me why.... I dunno!! I find it much more useful to exert conditionals upon beliefs and then use them almost like they are unconditional but with safety valves. Like a turbocharger, its gonna keep building intake pressure so long as you accelerate so if you need responsiveness you better let it dump that cycle else your going to be riding a bucking stallion all day :silly:
